We have gangster government when the Federal Government has set up a new cartel and private businesses now have to go begging with their hand out to their local, hopefully well politically connected Congressman or their Senator so they can buy a peace offering for that local business. Is that the kind of country we are going to have in the future?"

My dad mentioned the stuff that she said several days ago. I didn't know where he heard it from until just now when I watched the clip. He is not a Ron Paul supporter. For all of those who would complain that she is not uber-libertarian enough for you get real. Anybody who is talking out about this stuff is a potential ally regardless of his or her past. If only those people who are as supposedly hard core as you can make a difference then we're in bad shape. Your vitriol is repulsive and not beneficial to your stated purpose.

I agree. Now is the time to give some credit when credit is due. Like Ironman77 said below, we don't have time to get them all replaced. There are so many in Congress who are many, many times worse....like most all of them.

I don't know much about her except that she spoke up about the so-called census and the gangster gov't. She does seem to be bold and courageous, at least in those things.
Refreshing that a fellow Congressperson wants to learn from RP. Her boldness and learning from RP sound like a good combination.

I recently heard her speaking about the CENSUS and
she was holding firm that the number in the household she will declare but nothing else. She went on to say that in the CENSUS they ask what time you go to work and what time you get back from work and she went on to say that similar information was used just before WWII for apprehending the AMERICAN Japanese for CONTAMINATE CAMPS. (before she was cutoff suddenly by Glenn Beck) I believe she might have been off track in the beginning but is getting on track very nicely as time goes by. So stop complaining about her past and let her keep on evolving like we all have on DAILYPAUL.

In the 2000 census the census taker didn't even accept my number for how many people lived in my house - 1. With so many illegal immigrants packed two or three families to a house in my neighborhood the census taker just couldn't believe that I was the only one living in my house. So he put down 2 people.
So my state now just has a bit more representation than it deserves.

Just remember that while Bachmann may be using our terminology, she is NOT one of us. She is just another brain-dead neocon who doesn't like being out of power. She is pro-war, pro-state, and very anti-liberty.

I've seen this show before...
From time to time you will hear something that actually makes sense coming from a politician, or a news correspondent, or an economist, or a college professor or... you get the idea. Sometimes it even appears they've taken a courageous stand at some risk to their reputation and position.
However, I'd suggest that you don't accept a statement such as this as proof that this person is an ally of the freedom movement. Please, choose your representatives more carefully.
What is her background? What are her core beliefs and how did she arrive at them? What is her record on other issues? Where does her campaign funding come from? These are just a few questions that must be asked before holding her up as a stalwart defender of liberty and the constitution.
During the election Bachmann was recommending investigations into her fellow-representatives to uncover possible "unpatriotic associations" or some such nonsense. This is not someone who understands liberty or civil rights.
If people like Bachmann become spokespersons for the freedom movement it will not result in increasing numbers for the cause, it will reveal a lack of depth in its supporters and will likely set the movement back light years.
Her words might wake people up..............

We need honest representation and integrity
Question: Why did Ron Paul become such a standard bearer for liberty and the freedom movement?
Answer: Honesty, integrity and 30 years of principled, intellectually solid stances on civil liberties, economics and foreign and domestic policies.
Ask Dr. Paul a question on any subject and you will get an answer based on principle and a foundation of knowledge. He will provide evidence for what he's saying. He also might say he's not familiar with a specific, but he'll give you a general principle—and it will be sound.
Most would agree Bachmann is no Ron Paul, I would suggest she will never be based on her motivations which I believe are suspect.
It's unfair and untrue to say there is no one else who can represent liberty. There has to be or we're doomed! I believe we have to develop these people from within the movement. And we have to be extra cautious of anyone coming to us from outside. Those who have political aspirations for the wrong reasons remember well the power of real grassroots organization—and they want a piece of it.
It's far too easy to be impatient, to jump to support someone who appears to be an advocate without giving them time to prove themselves before attaching their name to the most important political movement of our generation. If they turn out to be what so many of them turn out to be, they forever taint the message and we begin again.

I have a hard time imagining these statements were made with a full understanding of her previous statements and voting record. Her suggestion just a few months ago to begin investigating people's associations to determine whether or not they are patriotic enough to serve in the house of representatives is a huge red flag for me, and I would think for anyone on the DP.
On your larger point, I think we agree. It is impossible to judge someone's motivations, and we need to leave the door open for her, or anyone else, to prove themselves.
Bachmann waking up
Here's my take on Bachmann, like many of us she is "waking up." It seems that she had previously towed the line for the GOP when Bush was in office, but since then she has been in the tutelage of the great doctor. Perhaps, she's slowly coming around. Yet, I say this with great hesitation because she still may have voted in the resolutions against China for Tienanmen and Iran for the elections. In some ways, she still believes in government meddling.
We have got to review these candidates thoroughly. Great speech though, and she's pleasing to the eyes.

IMHO we've had a gangster government at least since the Nixon Kennedy election, when both major parties' presidential candidates had publicly visible ties to competing Mafia families. (The Clinton presidency just confirmed it: To be governor of AR you have to be high in the Mafia family that moved there from New York City and still runs the place.)
What has happened recently is the election of a president from the Chicago Machine, who is now running the federal government in the same publicly-corrupt way that the machine runs Chicago and Cook County.

I think "fascism" refers to an illegimate (some would say "incestous") relationship between government and business/industry.
Whether its government taking over industry (communism) or industry buying their way into government (arguably, capitalism), both result in a few people having both total power over the government AND total power over industry;
Whatever the relative merits / problems with Communism, Socialism, Capitalism, and Democracy, they all _degenerate_ into fascism.
It's like, whether you're left or right, you're sliding down opposite sides of the same slope into the same sewage dump.
