International version of the Freestate Project?
I'm getting so disgusted by the never-ending and ever-accelerating tax and spend mentality of the Federal Government that I'm beginning to think about exit strategies.
I love the idea of the Freestate Project, but unless they get enough control of their state to secede, even they will be burdened by out of control taxes.
So it got me to wondering, is there a country where a freestate style project would work? A place to create true sovereignty based on the ideals of liberty?
The USA Titanic is about to crash into the iceberg. I see the iceberg ahead. I don't trust the Captain to turn the ship of state. In fact he is accelerating towards it. Everyone else is dancing the night way. I'm putting on my life vest and eyeballing the life boats.
If the lifeboats are countries, which one should you jump into?

I was thinking the same thing the other day
Only I was thinking the other direction. Why don't patriots all move to one county, then secede from the state that the county is in, and declare their own nation. It would be much easier to dominate a county. It would preferably be a small, rural county, where there was already sympathy for our views.
Liberty Islands Project.
I was seriously drumming this up before Ron Paul ran and got me involved in his quest for the presidency.
I have lots of ideas, and it is doable.
If anyone else thinks it's an idea whose time has come, let me know.

Know where to go really.
We can stay and fight or build our own community. If we leave, we will still be subject to what ever country's laws we choose to go to. About the best we could do is build a community "city" of our own. Here is a nice place in Mexico http://www.mexicoland.org/Real_Estate/100000007684720.html we could just chip in and buy it if 1000 of us pitched in $2500. Maybe form a corporation or something like that, we would all be share holders of the land.. Pitch in a little more and buy equipment to lay the infrastructure of our town. There's a lot of timber there that could be sold and used to our advantage. Maybe build a big resort or something to generate revenue. At least we could govern ourselves at a local level the way we see fit. Anyway just a thought.
That's a nice chunk of land.
That's a nice chunk of land. If a 1000 people do it, that would be over 16 acres per person. Not sure from the description if there is electricity there.
Kind of wondering why mexicans themselves don't by it if it's so nice...
You don't "own land" in Mexico
If you aren't a Mexican.
You can "sit" on it, and you can pay taxes on it, and you can develop it, but when you die, it reverts to the state.
You can't pass that land on to your heirs.
jumping ship....
is really not an answer I can endorse. it seems to me like out west is more liberty minded and proactive. I am seriously looking into St George-Cedar City Utah.

Costa Rica
I've heard good things about it. Check it out, and let us know what you find out.
The problem, however, with such a small country, is the fear of attack by larger neighbors.
Costa Rica
is full of spooks from the US.
If you're looking to get away from "big brother",that's not the place.
CIA, DIA, NSA, and others, all have major presence there, as a base for Central American and South American ops.
Moving to Costa Rica is the equivalent of moving to Langley, VA.
A goodly number of the Americans you see walking around down there are in the intelligence community.
If you know anybody who's been in the intelligence communtiy, just ask them.
That would explain why you have to protect your porperty
as furlough mentions below.

Friends there
I have some friends in Costa Rica, ex-pats
They say
The hospitals are first class, there are a lot of Ex-Pats there so you will have no problem assimilating even if you don't speak spanish. They home school with other people there.
The one thing that scares me is they have to hire armed guards to protect the family and their business from the criminal element, maybe it's just my American laziness, but I enjoy not having to be armed to feel safe (from civilian crime)
oh and salt water crocs
But, if we attack the moon, I'm leaving the U.S.
My friends import stuff from the US and sell it there at a decent mark up. I dont know anything about their currency though.
