nevermind our civil liberties, economic welfare or destructive foreign policy... THE KING OF POP IS DEAD!
I absolutely cannot function today knowing the sickening speed of which my entire social network has been alerted to the fact that both MJ and Farrah Fawcett have died today, also knowing the horrifyingly small percentage of people aware of the grave circumstances that encompass their own personal lives in todays increasingly totalitarian, conglomerate world.
The psychosis which supports such ridiculous grieving over a character that most people have never met or even saw in person (or even care for his music) while remaining willfully and completely delinquent of its own well being is too far beyond me to really cope with.
I am not happy anyone has died today, but im not particularly sad that the two prominent people plastered all over the news have died today either. I dont bear false pretense of feeling a way that might be accepted or expected for reasons which can only be explained as political correctness or common courtesy.
I just find it so disappointing that people have turned so apathetic to this world that they will absorb, malign and amplify any event not of consequence which will otherwise distract them from the horrible truths that no one will dare speak of that face us in todays sickly twisted, perverted world.
I share these feelings with you only because i feel that the people in this community might have SOME understanding or relation to the emotions of near disdain towards those who would dare be so shallow as to mark someone else's otherwise private tragic downfall as the main source of their attention and gossip.
god save our sorry collective selves.

While our Republic crumbles,
While our Republic crumbles, all eyes are distracted by the death/s of inconsequential people. Today the House is voting on capping and trading our @sses into poverty. Endless movements are afoot by the gangsters in Washington to disarm us, tax us, give amnesty to millions of illegals, force us into government run healthcare, and on and on, all being led by Barry "The Usurper" Soetoro. They fire the whistleblowers like Walpin, refuse to investigate ACORN or audit the "FED" and ignore the will of the people.
Wake up your parents, coworkers, friends, relatives and acquaintances to the deception of of this band of traitors.
He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetuate it.

Sorry if people don´t understand but it feels like a piece of me died today ;(.
Does anyone know where he will be buried?

This reminds me of Plato's Republic where he talks about the three ways to steal truth from the masses.
1. Theft by Persuasion
2. Force- violence and pain
3. Enchantment- Fear and pleasure
It is a long read, but I recommend it.
He was murdered.
But I don't watch TV so I have no clue what they are saying. I do know that he was exceptionally HATED by the Hollywood machine for being as talented a businessman as performer. He owned music they have wanted to own sice his marriage to Lisa Prestley. I was surprized to hear he was in America, as his last trial in CA, he left and said he would not return. I honestly don't know much about MJ. I never bought a record of his. I am not a fan, but I did really like Rockin' Robin and ABC when I was a kid.
Im sure NK LOVED MJ.

rip
the king of pop
people are drugged and bombarded with propaganda
They have emotions when they are told to. The robotic soceity we live in doesn't allow people to think of feel for themselves. When the Tv tells them everyone is mourning they jump in step and feel the emotional outburst they are advised to like a release of a pressure gauge.
Until Americans have disconnected their reliance on the boob tube to tell them what to think, the way of America with freedom and liberty will go in the night while our citizens slowly lower themselves into the warm bath called Socialism. When they are slaves to their government they will wake up, and it will be too late to do anything but what they are told. Liberty will be a distant memory.
Let's say RP died!
What would the reaction be?
This reminds me of the day that Mother Tersa died, some other pop star died the same day therefore her passing and life's work went almost unnoticed.
Bite your tongue
I am not mourning MJ.

There is only one pop culture icon that I am concerned with.
His name is Barry Soetoro. He is likely a foreign national and he is the most dangerous puppet president I have know in all of my 46 years.
Ron Paul is my President.
Ron Paul is my President.
Arnold will rescue you for 2012
he'll expose the whole charade and show why he can not only do better then Obama and Bush, but he WILL be president. I'd like Ventura to run, and Nader..just to keep elections interesting... and RP,,, but, I fear RP would back out and keep his congresional seat, again. Fool me once.

Too bad, he would have made
Too bad, he would have made a wonderful contribution to the Obama Administration, maybe he could be the Youth Czar.
He was very high profile
Will everyone have their undies in a bunch if there are threads the day that Paul McCartney dies? To some, MJ's death is the end of an era. I never understood the fascination- but I was right there and watched. Dont get so wrapped up in government hating that you forget to be human. Dont wait till the revolution is over before you feel like you can take a few minutes out of your busy "saving the nation " day to discuss the death of an icon. Be honest- if a celebrity YOU cared about died- youd be alot less judgemental about off-topic threads. I bet the Vatican Swiss Guards are talking about it in some hallway as we speak. Lighten up.
i appreciate your comments
but i think youre a bit misunderstanding what my point of frustration is.
To reiterate, i am not relishing in his passing nor am i hating on people for caring in such a direct fashion. Also this post has zero reference to any members or topics here started at the DP, but rather those friends family and coworkers who had zero interest in the man or his music or had any respect for his person until today.
And as such, my analysis is that there are people that are genuine fans that are upset and such, but for the large part it really feels like people psyche themselves into feeling connected and upset as if to somehow associate themselves with a momentous event in pop culture.
Aside from allllll of that nonsense, the real core of frustration and annoyance is how the news of a death of a brilliant entertainer bears more relevance and attachment to the everyday realities of such evils that not only combat us as citizens and threaten our very livelihood in a very direct manner, but also those atrocious events that occur, usually involving killing people, that is being done in our name on an all too frequent, every day occurrence.
Nothing about this thread is meant to somehow judge, diminish or demean the deaths of those famous people who passed away today, but i find it rather pathetic of all the deaths that have happened in conflict and or collateral damage through aggression, these will be the only ones they know about. My opinion is that many people who did know about them wouldnt really care nearly as much anyway.
Two explanations & some sympathy
1. The vast majority of people -- especially those born before 1970 -- have two compartments in their mind for Michael Jackson, pre-1993 and post-1993. The death of anyone brings to the forefront positive memories, in this case pre-1993. Michael Jackson was one of the greatest dancers of all time. When I went to show my five-year-old dancers on YouTube this past week, I showed her Michael Jackson, Fred Astaire, and Mikhail Barishnikov. People who you say "may not have cared for Michael Jackson" may have just been in their post-1993 mindset, but with his death now evaluate his life -- and impact upon their own lives -- in its totality.
2. The effect of celebrity upon society is real. It's better to understand it than to rant about it. Celebrities -- especially television celebrities -- become proxies for friends. Television celebrities are invited into viewers' living rooms, and common experiences are shared. When a celebrity dies, a friend has died. Not only is a connection lost, but it brings to mind one's own mortality, especially with these deaths at younger ages and resulting from disease. Both of these celebrities were launched by television, so we can take some solace for the future that such television celebrities may be harder to mint in the future. Michael Jackson's career was launched by a single television moment in 1983 -- when he moonwalked on the Motown 25 year anniversary television special. Could that happen in the era where YouTube is replacing television? I doubt it.
Finally, some sympathy to your post:
3. We have become numb to the wars and their deaths in the same way we have become numb to 42,000 annual automobile deaths and rampant drug-related crime. Those are ongoing problems that have faded into the background. The deaths of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett are news against this background. What is outrageous is that these wars were easily preventable before they were started -- in contrast to the difficulty of solving other ongoing big problems of the day such as automobile deaths. The Obama-voting public should be up in arms for perpetuating Bush's wars. People seem to have acquiesced to the idea that all politicians are liars. Helplessness is being accepted and is now part of that accepted background. I don't have any answers, thus this sympathy toward your psot.
Well Put!
He was a part of American history and a piece in the mosaic we are fighting to preserve, so that one day another great artist can be at liberty to entertain us in a free world where music and dance are valuable contributions to our way of life. That makes it very much worth mentioning today. Not dwelling on, but worth mentioning here.

Not funny, Troy.
So consider this.
The man you're treating so lightly on the day of his death was more successful and talented at seven years old then you'll probably ever be in your life.
Grow up.

First off, I watched that
First off, I watched that trial carefully and the only disgusting thing was the lies from the kid and his mother, and I doubt you followed anything OTHER than what you WANT to believe and what appears to be an easy target.
This is the same vile stuff that was said about Dr. Paul and him being a racist. Just because people make accusations and they may even look to be true, doesn't make them. There is not a question after watching the trial that he didn't do anything with that kid. They saw easy money at an easy target.
You should be ashamed of yourself making statements UNLESS you have PROOF of it. And you should respect the verdict. After watching the trial I would have been surprised if they DID find him guilty. But like a lot of people, they love to swing mud out at others.
