Daily Kos: Who Will Profit From Cap And Trade? Not Us.

Well, you might say, who cares? If cap-and-trade succeeds, won't we all be saved from the catastrophe of global warming? Maybe but cap-and-trade, as envisioned by Goldman, is really just a carbon tax structured so that private interests collect the revenues. Instead of simply imposing a fixed government levy on carbon pollution and forcing unclean energy producers to pay for the mess they make, cap-and trade will allow a small tribe of greedy-as-hell Wall Street swine to turn yet another commodities market into a private tax-collection scheme. This is worse than the bailout: It allows the bank to seize taxpayer money before it even collected.

Bottom line is that Cap and trade isn't a fair tax. We already have cap and trade fo Sulfur emissions. By the way,

No tax is best. A flat tax is better than cap and trade.

Free health care is best. The next fairest is single payer, then what we are doing.

We need to make peace with the lefty anti-state anti corporatist people and work together.

The congress will profit.

They'll be selling exemptions to lobbyists, just like they do with the internal revenue code. The only beneficiaries of this tragic mistake will be the government and the corporations who are willing to buy favors from it.

Who profits is of course

Who profits is of course important but there's more to the picture. If you step back and look very hard with a wide enough perspective you will see this law and countless other ones have the effect of incrementally shutting down America by curbing activities (freedom) and production (personal income). Yes, the pseudo-government and cronies get the "tax" money but our capital (ability to do things) is steadily decreased by every tax, fee and fine. America has been under attack for decades and precious few are awake enough to notice or even care.
