I will unashamedly admit to being a supporter of Mark Sanford.

In the all the recent flurry surrounding the "disappearance", "reappearance", and the "announcement" about our Governor, lately, and with all our heads spinning over this seemingly out-of-character behavior; Rebekah Southerland has another take on the events.

I pray her discernment is correct. Only time will tell.

Hello to all South Carolina folks:

As the television news demands that we believe their story about the Governor of South Carolina and his alleged affair, I am wary of buying into that soap opera. I spent many hours on stages having debates with Sanford as a candidate for SC governor in 2000. This story I see on television does not "ring true" for me.

First, Sanford grew up in a strong family as the oldest son who was given excellent moral guidance. When his father died, Mark Sanford cared for his mother and brothers. His choices are deliberate. He adores his wife and children. He has character.

Second, Sanford challenged the entire federal enterprise (i.e., Vatican ruled empire) when he refused to accept the "stimulus money", because as a former US House member, he knows that debt will ultimately cause the federal level of government to assume control of all states who accepted it.

Third, Sanford has a problem with those in the Republican Party who call themselves "centrists", because he has a reputation of being squeaky clean and fiscally responsible. He needs the middle to move into the national political scene.

Fourth, Argentina has been a hot bed for politics and remains so to this day . . . large Catholic population . . . and the name on the leaked emails is "Maria". Hmm.

Fifth, the emails that supposedly reveal Sanford's affair were delivered anonymously last December to the news media. Hmm.

Sixth, the secret service is supposed to know where Sanford is at all times . . . hello? . . . they "did not know" for days and on many occasions that he was slipping out of the country? Come on, people. Our law enforcement even knows what toothpaste we buy . . . give me a break.

Seventh, Jenny Sanford is one tough cooky who has political savvy undertones with a father was served as a SC Governor in the past.

Eighth, as Chairman of the national level GOP, Sanford would never jeopardize his position for a foreign woman . . . but there are other reasons that would be far more appealing. He stepped aside for a political reason, but the excuse for his behavior has been offered to us by the media with Sanford as a participating player.

Ninth, politics in the USA is a constant lie . . . seamless web of deciept from the day the US Constitution was witnessed (i.e., not signed).

Tenth, the GOP needs a shake-up in the conservative circles . . . to get the "most right" man lined up for the next Presidential election. Two GOP governors are suddenly having "affairs" . . . there is political earthquake in the make.

So . . . forgive me if I choose to remain skeptical . . . remember the saying that nothing in politics happens by accident.

At this point in time, I believe that Jenny and Mark Sanford are "repositioning" themselves politically. They know that South Carolina is now destined to fall under the coming dictatorship, because it took the stimulus money. Sanford needs an "out" and the Lt. Governor is chomping at the bit to become the governor . . . of an impending mess . . which will include 37 million gallons of high level radioactive nuclear liquid legacy waste sitting in rotting tanks on sandy soil in Aiken County . . . and Yucca Mountain is closed for business. That stuff remains here forever.

What better way to exit the burning building than to have a back door . . . and the Sanfords have the means by which the entire family can escape.

Ah Southern 'christian' people . . . be very careful what you choose to "believe" . . . this unfolding story as a giant sucking sound that fall to foolish folly. Look to the bigger political picture for the truth . . . or you will be played the Fool.

Sincerely,
R.E. Sutherland, M.Ed./sciences

We all have a right to our opinion..I judge a man by his actions

Not by his words.

I don't care if he had an affair.

I don't care if he disappeared for a number of days.

All I care about is the lie.

We live in a world of lies. Read this site. We are ruled by liars and their lie.

Sanford is a pathological liar.

He believes himself when telling a lie.

I hope for the day when politicians will be elected for their truth....not their ability to lie without conscience.

This man lied to all of us and did no care a lick for what he had done until he was caught.

He cried at the end because he assumed that crying would "work" and get him off the hook.

Makes Bill Clinton look like an amateur.

Sanford should have told the truth at the start and been a man about it,

Another sociopath refuses to bite the dust.

It takes courage to tell the truth. Sanford exhibited none of same.

Unify

I just think this whole thing is very 'stinky'. Don't know what

it means, but its 'stinky', because it just doesn't add up.

Its like those whistle-blowers who are found hanging by piano wire, tortured, with two bullet holes in the head...and it gets reported as a 'suicide'. Right.

True or not, the timing of

True or not, the timing of the exposure tells me it was politically motivated to get rid of him. Otherwise we would not be hearing anything about this.

Personally, I would rather have cheaters in office who uphold the Constitution and individual rights than the neocons he is likely to be replaced with.

There is more coming out about this now, unfortunately.

Argentine woman admits relationship with SC Gov.
Jun 28 06:57 PM US/Eastern

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) - A 41-year-old Argentine woman has acknowledged having a relationship with South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford.

In a statement sent to news network C5n of Buenos Aires, Maria Belen Chapur says she will not talk about her private life.

But she says e-mail exchanges with Sanford that were widely published by U.S. media and elsewhere were obtained by someone who hacked her account.

She denies the hacker was a friend of hers.

Chapur says she suspects she knows who the hacker is but will not identify him, because she lacks proof and for legal reasons.

She says Sunday's 200-word statement will be her only comment on the matter.

MY only problem with Sanford

MY only problem with Sanford is he may have use public funds to perp his escapades ..You cannot just pay it back & no consequences.
you-no

Maybe

YOU are a very good man, projecting your goodness and expectations of yourself and standards for yourself onto someone you have admired. Been there, done that and have been disappointed when the whole truth was known. You know how it should have been. Maybe you need to run for office.

Indeed ... Indeed

THANK YOU LAUGHLOVELEARN!~

I ran for precinct Executive Committeeman and won
I ran for State Executive Committeeman and lost
I ran for 3rd Vice County Chair and lost

both loses proved beneficial ...

I agree with you nmlifestyles

Nothing about this story has sat well with me from the first minute it broke.

In truth,

Keep runnin'

Up the stakes. Go for a more influential position.

I would too

If I thought I talked him into doing what he did by his own poor choice. LUCKY YOU found out. Some of us are not so lucky to find out HUMAN things about people we put above us, eh? I've got Arnold and I wish it was him.....

Understand nmlife: Why destroy ones entire reputation to make...

a back door? If Sanford wanted out, then just get out, and not run again. He leaves with his reputation, family, etc. intact. Colin Power, years ago, said he wanted out of politics and did so. (He should have stayed out!)

Your wariness about this matter is certainly justified, and there seems to be more to this than meets the eye. Putting your strong support behind Sanford only to be disappointed and blindsided by something like this, seemingly out of left field, is indeed shocking. Unfortunately, the damage has been done, despite what surfaces now.

Perhaps a preferable choice

as opposed to being eliminated? Just a thought.. some strange accidents do happen all the time..

Hypocrite

I don't necessarily think he should resign, but I think he should apologize to the politicians like Livingston who he demanded resign based on an affair Livingston was having.

Sanford made a career partially based on moral values and condemning what others were doing that weren't up to his standards.

Also he needs to apologize to gay people for opposing their right to marry on the State level seeing how he isn't able to run even a traditional marriage why should he get his nose in other's business.

Just issue an apology and grow as a politician. He was a pretty good congressman (voted with Ron Paul again regime change in Iraq), but terrible on gay rights and issues of moralism.

why should he apologize for YOU?

dude, get over it!

In truth,

Personally I really don't

Personally I really don't care if he had an affair or not. It is not my business or anyone elses what a man or women does so long as they aren't harming someone or someones property. This issue is between him and his family and no one else. My real concern is how the man is representing the people of America.

I also didn't care when Clinton had an affair, again none of my business.

The problem is people love gossip and scandal, they get off on it. What is really sad is how so many people here and on other forums actually got great joy out of someones life being ripped to shreds.

People need to grow up, mind their own business and work at fixing the real problems we face in this country which does not include whether someone can keep their thing in their pants or not.

I agree about the affairs

but, leaving for 7 days without notice is bad.

And as far as Clinton goes, he did what he did IN his OFFICE which I provide for him, ON MY time, not his own. Also when higher politicians carry on, they drag all kinds of paid personnel along with them. I don't want to have to pay a penny for a politicians affairs. They need to go without their entourage.
