Importance of SC Governor Race
http://blogs.cqpolitics.com/in_the_right/2009/06/sanfords-im...
The issue with Sanford has also another possible consequence for the 2012 presidential race. Should he resign before the end of his term (in disgrace), his successor, lt. gov. Andre Bauer will profit from it. This also means Mike Huckabee may profit from it. If Bauer is sworn in before the end of Sanford's term, it will help him (Bauer) already with the crowded 2011 race for governor.
Bauer endorsed Huckabee for president in January 2008, is if he is gov. in 2011/2012, he may be endorsing Huckabee (or a related person if Huckabee does not run, like Tim Pawlenty). And they say no SC governor endorsed presidential candidate has ever lost his race in SC and a win in SC ensures the nomination for the GOP candidates. Not only IO and NH are crucial, also SC. Remember Buchanan won NH, but lost SC.
So we have to identify which candidate for gov. in SC we are going to support, give him/her all the support and get Ron Paul and/or Gary Johnson to meet with and endorse the candidate. If that candidate wins he/she may be assured the next gov. of SC, and that gov. can endorse Ron Paul or Gary Johnson again in 2011/2012.
Nicki Haley seems like the fiscally most conservative and as an attractive and young (36) Indian-American perhaps the best candidate closest to Dr. Paul's platform. (Remember for gov. we do not worry about foreign policy or monetary policy as it simply does not play a role...we can always educate that person in that later). Haley endorsed Romney in the GOP primary last year I think, but she was strongly against the Bush-Paulson bailouts, which Romney supported and still defends and she is also a strong supporter of the tea parties and will speak on July 4th. I think Haley follows a grassroots campaign - like Dr. Paul - rather than a centralized high paid campaign manager.
So let us think about it, especially the South Carolians.... You could ask the candidate you decide on, whether Haley or someone else, about his/her opinion of Dr. Paul and his positions in private. Keep that private also and only use as affirmation that the person can be supported and may ask the candidate if he/she would like to receive an endorsement from Dr Paul and/or Gary Johnson.

Ventura 2012
On a related note.
For the 2012 elections, any idea if there is a viable candidate for the GOP? This might be a completely liberal/moderate election next time around with all the controversy regarding the Republican Party right now. I watched a video today posing the question that the GOP might just be obsolete. I don't particularly agree with that sentiment, but I do see less and less of a place for extremists on either side with old fashioned views being replaced by open-minded youth. Perhaps an Independent party candidate will be a viable solution for 2012.
Oh, here's the link to that video:

My basic argument is
endorse and elect out of the 4 GOP candidates running state sen. Nikki Haley, congressman Gresham Barret (can't be him, as he voted for the Bush-Paulson bailout and criticized libertarians), lt. gov. Andre Bauer and
AG Henry McMaster, the one that comes closest to Dr. Paul and Gary Johnson (I think it is Nikki Haley) and if she (or he) win, he/she as gov. can endorse Dr. Paul or Gary Johnson in the GOP primary, which can ensure that Dr. Paul/Gary Johnson, wins the state and most probably win the GOP primary as well, to face off against Obama. Capito?
What chance will an Indy candidate have in a system rigged against Indy/3rd party? Don't give up already! It will be easier and cheaper to restore the GOP than form a new party and compete. Also, the GOP will take over the rhetoric of the Indy/3 party in any case if Dr. Paul would go 3th party/Indy and pressure people to vote for the one that can beat Obama, e.g. lesser of 2 evils.
Let's think outside the box.
Out of all the politicians we know in SC does anyone know anybody that really stands out as a TRUE libertarian/constitutionalist/ronpaul republican?
Maybe we should do some recruitment? Let's take a no name citizen, one of us, and we'll make him governor of SC. We definitely have enough resources to make something as important as this happen.
Simple.

I just spent the last 6
I just spent the last 6 years living in SC, and, trust me, nobody really likes Andrew Bauer.
Even if Sanford *did* resign, it wouldn't matter - Bauer has no shot at winning the primary in 2010.
I agree Nikki Haley (sp: HALEY) is SC's best bet moving forward, but I doubt anyone is going to stop the machine that is McMaster from stepping into the governor's office. Bauer is small potatoes, and will have no impact on the 2012 race. After all, Bauer couldn't do s*** for Huckabee last time, either.

Unfortunenatly ,there has just not
been a candidate with Dr Pauls credidentials integrity or policies to really emerge.as a GOP contender .And it is very important that we put someone in the primmaries that has our point of veiw.We must have someone to debate the issues.Unfortunatleyl Dr Paul seems to be the only choice we have .My only other alternative that I could think of is have Reverand Chuck Baldwin run in primaries to counter Reverand Mike Huckabee.
maybe you did not understand
what I wanted to say. Elect and endorse a candidate for gov. in SC and work hard to ensure he/she wins, then then he/she can endorse Dr. aul or Gary Johnson in the SC primary, win the primary and voila!
Baldwin is not quite as libertarian as Dr. Paul and the CP tends to be more for "fair trade" and protectionist like the Democrats, while Dr. Paul is for true free trade. Baldwin is nice, but he has had zero political experience, nor interest.
I trust Andre Bauer as far as I can throw him.
I live in South Carolina.
There is much more to the Sanford affair than meets the eye.
Andre Bauer is not even in the same league as Mark Sanford. Sanford may have had an adulterous affair, and his dissappearance and being apparently out of touch for several days is very concerning to me, but believe me, Andre Bauer is much less worthy of trust than Sanford even with all that figured in. Bauer is aggressively ambitious and I think he's just squirrelly.
I don't know anything about Healy.
ultimatecynic
yes
indeed. He did not make any solid impression last year and seems to be unaware of the SC constitution. I also heard he was fined twice, once for overspeeding at more than 100 mph and had an accident. he seems pretty reckless and inexperienced. If he endorsed Huckabee, he can't be fiscally conservative. I think those that voted for Romney or Giuliani may be more fiscally conservative than Huckabee or Mccain.
Nikki makes a much better impression and she is younger. We must try to get Jack Hunter aka southern avenger to have a radio interview with her.
Bauer when pulled over....
"But I'm SC-2!! I'm SC-2!!"
