Sen. Inhofe Says 'Cap And Trade' Dead in Senate
Inhofe Says 'Cap And Trade' Dead
Wayne Trotter
Passing President Obama’s “cap and trade” energy program would cost the average Oklahoma family $3,200 a year, Sen. Jim Inhofe said Friday, but he’s confident the measure will be killed in the Senate no matter what happens in the House of Representatives.
The Tulsa Republican, a longtime critic of what he considers “this hoax called global warming,” made his latest statements during a morning stop in Shawnee while House members in Washington were preparing to vote on the controversial issue.
“Between the years of 1998 and 2005, I was the only member of the United States Senate who would take on what I call ‘the Hollywood elitists’ and the United Nations on this hoax called global warming and I went through seven years of purgatory on that issue.
“But now I’ve been redeemed and the vast majority of the scientific community has now said Inhofe’s right and the United Nations is wrong and those individuals … have now said ‘no, the science is not there and these are natural cycles.”
At the time of the interview Friday morning, he said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was only two votes short of winning and predicted that if she brought the question up for a vote, it would indicate she had found them. Late Friday, the bill was approved in the House on a 219-212 vote.
“It doesn’t matter,” he declared flatly, “because we’ll kill it in the Senate anyway.”

He's partly right
The price of oil is subsidized to the tune of about $500 billion in the U.S. military budget alone. Add what Great Britain, France and a few other nations similarly spend as excess or subsidy for such purpose.
The other point that oil, coal, and nuclear are subsidized by being allowed to pollute is also valid. Not sure about the amount.
Nothing that the NWO has on the agenda will ever die…
… Don't kid yourself. Cap and Trade dead? Hahahahahaha! Plus, if anyone here actually believes that the Fed will ever be audited, you are living in a dream world. I don't care how many cosponsors HR 1207 has.
I hate to throw a turd in the punchbowl folks, but I sincerely believe that the NWO would rather nuke several major American cities than to let the Fed get audited and consequently be shut down. Most everyone in a position of power has sold out and is totally owned by the globalist bastards pulling all the strings. The current legislation being passed defies all logic, reason and common sense. NOTHING in government happens by accident or by stupidity. Therefore all of this must be intentional.
Phoning, faxing, writing, pleading, introducing bills, attempting to elect another Ron Paul clone and begging these evil bastards in the District of Criminals has about as much lasting effect a fart in a whirlwind. While we are fighting against one awful thing, they pass ten hideous things behind our back, buried in insignificant legislation.
Unless we have a miracle, folks, I'm afraid that we are all doomed. While the world mourns Michael Jackson, America will continue to die without a whimper. I truly hope that all the people that have smirked at my efforts of trying to educate them over the past thirty years, enjoy their brave new world.

Fortune Favors the Bold
no one can talk intelligently about this issue. Calling it a hoax makes him sound as arrogant as those who are absolutely certain the earth is doomed.

Hoax ; a deliberate attempt to dupe, deceive or trick.
That`s exactly what the global warming theory is, no more and no less.
Look at the facts , and pull your head out of that dark place.

I hope he's right
The govt needs to get the hell out of EVERYTHING Do what it's supposed to, protect this country, the people therein and safeguard Constitutional principles. Greed has been at the root of non/alternative energy. oil companies don't want electric cars, solar panels are bad for the light company, BIG OIL is the primary culprit. Without the oil mob this country would have left fossil fuels decades ago. Now these bastards want to use the climate as an excuse to fund world govt by stealing everything else from the people of the world.....water,food,guns,ammo...Time to revolve!
Just one last kick in the nuts, then a final deathblow

"How can we justify to the unemployed and underemployed in the United States the incredible cost of maintaining a global empire?" - Dr. Ron Paul
What a shame
Anyone who believes that the average resident in Oklahoma will get charged $2,300 is completely ignorant about how our current energy system works. I'd love it if people could actually debate these topics with supported facts instead of talking point drivel.
Is he a climatologist? No. So does it have any bearing on anything that he spent time being the only one against it? No.
Who took the poll to find out that he's been redeemed by 'the vast majority'? There's no majority for his side and no way to find which side a majority would even be on. The waters are too muddy everywhere.
I'm for doing things correctly according to the constitution, but when the energy companies have stacked the regulations against the average consumer, I'm for almost any law making them compete in an open and free market again!
This just inspired me to make another round of calls to my senators in support of this bill. I will, however, hold off if the members of this site can actually put up some intelligent debate.
So, are any of the Reps who supported
Cap & Trade climatologists or economists (other than Paul who had done due diligence studying economics for many decades)?
Please be open minded about the cause of the Global Warming. Do you really feel comfortable with scientific questions about which there is considerable debate among experts being adjudicated by bureaucrats with absolute legal and economic power?
Remember these are the same folks that brought the current economic collapse, a tsunami of inflation and waste, not to mention perpetual warfare as official policy. One could go on and on about their failures. Why focus on what you perceive as faults in their critics rather than the horrendous failures of the people fully responsible for the calamities overhwhelming us?
Politicians are not economists or climatologists
Ron Paul is one of only two that I know of that have learned what's really going on in economics and I can't remember the other one's name. Unfortunately, even RP quotes a number of things that are factually wrong.
I only read peer-reviewed data and then I discuss with other engineers, scientists, climatologists and physicists. I don't care one little bit who's signed or not, nor do I care what they've voted for in the past. It's completely irrelevant.
So,
who will pay for these carbon emission certificates? Companies will be alloted so many to purchase. If they go over and beyond their "cap" they then will be able to purchase cetificates from companies that have less emissions, hence "trade." Most of the available certifcates will be held by big bankers and sold to the highest bidder. You don't think this is going to be passed onto the consumer? Think again. It is a tax on the consumer, no question about it. We here in PA are about to find out when a cap comes off a utility in 2010 and how much it will cost the consmer. Double to triple our current electric bill. And this on top of Cap and Trade adds insult to injury. That's right let them compete without all this government interference. As far as golbal warming to quote a Harvard Professor, "It's the sun, stupid." Only 3% is manmade. We can take care of mother earth without the taxpayer paying for it. We've been doing it individually for years. Recycling, reusing, composting, energy efficient cars. and so on.
Read my previous post.
I explained how it's not going to double or tripple anything. Think of it like the price of uranium doubling. That only makes up 5% of the cost of nuclear power so doubling it's cost would only increase the power's cost by 5%. In the same way, increasing electrical power's cost by 10-25% will only cost you the same increase you're headed for anyway. The difference is that this profit goes to clean, renewable companies (minus the trader's cuts) where in the old way, the power company gets the entire treasure.
Keep in mind that when enough renewables hit the market, they'll compete on price with the centralized utility companies and your cost WILL drop. It's awefully hard to organize a monopoly (or oligopoly) between the producer and the consumer.
so explain to me
how cap and trade isn't going to cost me anything? I look forward to your well researched answer.
If renewable energy supply keeps up with energy losses
If renewable energy supply keeps pace with the retirement of fossil fueled energy, you won't see any price increase. The reason is that the government can't mandate the closing of plants any more than they can decide where to put up a wind farm or solar plant. They give incentives and developers build the projects. Unless there's a shortage of power, the price of wind power sold to the power company will be competitive with that company's current price. Otherwise they won't sign a 20 year PPA (power purchase agreement). That PPA then locks them into that price.
So the power price stays the same as long as there's no shortage. Of course many people think there will be a resulting shortage but I can tell you that there are more projects being proposed in renewables in every state than I ever dreamed of. My company gets calls from half a dozen per month and some are enormous compared to what has been built so far. If just our company could complete every project we've been approached on so far this year, we would surpass the growth of the nation for the entire year.
So, back to the fossil fueled energy companies costs going up. It doesn't have to if they clean up their generation. If not, then they will need to pay a small fee for the status quo. Currently, this cost is around $14/megawatt-hour. This means on $80-150 worth of power, the price goes up $14. Since there are speculators invovled, we'll just say 10-25%. Keep in mind that you bill is only about 25-60% paying for the power. The rest is taxes and fees and connection charges and distribution line maintenance costs and 'sweetheart deal' builtin costs. After figuring in all that, you'll be lucky to see a 3% to 8% increase and that's LOWER than anyone expects prices to rise from business as usual.
For me, Tam..this is just another government over reach...
I'm tired of it. Someone is always making money off of these schemes. Whether it is URESA, Health Care, Environmental Act, whatever! They are all schemes to somehow either take away more of our liberties or rob us or both. My 2 cents.
but what you're not being told is
that the end result of this bill is much cheaper for everyone. It gives you the financial assistance to make your own electricity. If you can't, there will be excess from someone else who wants to make a buck by selling it to you. This is what we all want in a free market. Sure there are problems with it and I completely agree that the other recent and near term legislation are scary, but this works toward energy independence, not only for the individual but on a national basis as well.
You want to make money, research out some new tech that allows you to heat, cool and power your home without paying $50 in fees and THEN $75-500 in power bills.
You're afraid that this will cost us $3,000 per year? Sorry, but there's no way. We've already surpassed that price increase by market manipulation through stacked regulations in favor of big oil, coal, corn and electric. How can we trust that more of the same won't cause another $3k next year? All my estimates, and I've done half a dozen of them, have placed our cost increase per family and small business at $30/month or maybe double that. Keep in mind that that price is only if you're buying your power from fossil fuel based sources. If you purchase a solar PV system even today, you'd have it paid off in 4-15 years (depending on size and location and a few others) and that's while paying today's electric bill. What do you think you'd pay for that same power over the next 20 years?

I get around plenty but I use MY brain
not anyone else's. I've researched energy in all forms for decades now. I've learned just how much our lives are controlled by the energy monopolies. There is only one answer and that is to get off the grid and become energy self sustainable. I even started a couple businesses to do just that, both for myself and for others. I'm seeing now exactly how the energy corporations have controlled this game and what they want. That being more control. They don't want any renewables that compete with them. For this reason, they're ok with "traditional" wind and solar because they don't have any storage and external storage (aka batteries) is too expensive. Any new technologies with storage built in (and yes, there are a number of them) are getting regulated out of the game before they get started. You don't think renewables can compete, well put up a few million toward investment and see what secret information you get to sign a non-disclosure agreement for. You can believe that we don't need our centralized energy system spoon feeding us just enough energy to do what we need to, at the highest prices we can afford.
The only way these new companies can finance their products is to a) be self funding - they spent their money researching and developing or b) get guaranteed contracts for enough money for the sale of their electricity for 20 years - utilities won't pay any extra for clean or green, c) get government subsidies - they're getting a pittance compared to when oil, coal, NG or nuclear began or d) find a way for the polluting companies to assist the cleaner ones. That's what cap&trade is all about. I've been in high level energy discussions 8 years ago where it was determined that c&t was the only solution where the government didn't have control of where the money ended up. I realize that this gives the bankers 'some' control of it now, but we've got to start somewhere.
