Ok, lets talk Honduras. What say you?

I see Honduras making big news recently for what appears to be a military coup. They claim the El Presidente Manuel Zalaya was attempting to circumvent congress and the Supreme Court of Hondouras on legislative matters. Therefore the military took charge to preserve the Honduran Constitution.

I really don't know what the hell is going on but my gut is telling me that the Honduran people have taken control of what seems to be a leader that feels he has no liability to the system in place.

Again, I have know idea politically or even civilly what side of the fence these people are on. But what peaked my interest was to how Obama, Hillary, Cuba, Venesuela and others are totally up in arms over this.

As a matter of fact, if what the Hondouran people are saying is true, that this guy was attempting to exersize unconstitutional and over reaching power thus causing the coup. Then shouldn't we be supporting this move? and embracing the decision to boot this guy? Why does Obama say this is "not legal" and that he will "stand on the side of democracy".

Something stinks here. I hope I'm not all wet since my facts are not all that solid, but I would love to see a little dialog on this matter.

What if this coup needs to be put down because if it succedes based on the principle reasons I noted above, does it not put the USA at risk for a similar scenerio?????

Help me here folks, I need some background!

My first thought is any time

My first thought is any time there is a military coup in a 3rd world country it is a power grab and not to regain or maintain freedom. The fact the Barry & co are against it means they probably facilitated it. Just look 90 degrees in the opposite direction of what ever these people say and you will be much closer to the truth of the matter.

To bad we all couldn't just get together and take over a county somewhere and make it into a true free zone. Most are too tied to the society we all grew up in which is a corps that won't sustains us much longer.

Once it collapses completely we will wish we had but it will be too late by then.

I say, "Dammit!"

Everywhere I have land has gone from wild and free to hotbeds of oppression. And I don't have very many pieces of property. I also say that everything you've heard about Zaleya is a lie. Honduras was really getting nice. I guess that's going to change.

If only....

Sounds better when you say it that way, doesn't it?

its a test bed.

I know its a cluster fundue....I think its a provoked catch 22 to see how it plays out. What is freaking me out is that we have the EXACT SAME RESOLUTION that the ousted president was pushing for on the books here. Introduced January 9th.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.J.RES.5:

If it were to pass it would go into effect at the end of Obama's second term...if he were to have a second term.

Obama is supporting the ousted guy while conflicting with Department of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton's "on the record" remarks. hehehehe....

Anyhow...

The Congressman that introduced the US version of the Presidental no-term limit resolution was from the Bronx and is bankrolled by Union PACs.

http://serrano.house.gov/Forms/Contact.aspx

I know...its a common last name but I found this interesting. The Congressman and this guy have the same surname:

"It was the first military ouster of a Central American president since 1993, when Guatemalan military officials refused to accept President Jorge Serrano's attempt to seize absolute power, forcing him to resign."

So Here is Obama telling people to accept the Inter-American Democratic Charter and bring back the ousted President

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/lt_honduras_referendum
"I call on all political and social actors in Honduras to respect democratic norms, the rule of law and the tenets of the Inter-American Democratic Charter," Obama's statement read.

Which led me to:
auto translation...forgive the tough reading of this one.
http://mathaba.net/news/?x=620927
"Meanwhile the government has been overthrown in a military coup that violated also several embassies in Honduras. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has said action will be taken to restore democracy in Honduras and calls naive calls have been made upon the United States to say if it was involved in the coup.

The United States has naturally rejected any involvement.

The OAS has recently been criticized as an ineffective tool which is subservient to United States dictat."

FYI : OAS = Organization of American States

Which led me to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organization_of_American_States
"Fostering free trade: The OAS is one of the three agencies currently engaged in drafting a treaty that will establish a hemispheric free trade area from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego."

Tierra del Fuego (land of fire - hell?!) goodness.

So I conclude that there will be ample de-briefings created surrounding this situation. I think the small country of Honduras with its population of 7 million is a test bed.

These things are never cut and dry are they? Nice research!

oh keep an eye on who gets pitted against Obama

in the next election. Because with the no-term limits for the office of President resolution, the next guy in office is golden (if it passes). And whoever it is maybe on deck just waiting and maybe worse (if that's possible) than Obama.

thanks!

I have been emailing this crap to my family members and they don't seem to think it has anything to do with anything. I'm glad someone sees the connection.

Respect the Law

My understanding is that the Honduran Supreme Court approved the military action based on Honduran legislature's request because the President was calling for an illegal referendum to unlawfully extend his presidency. So, to me, the "coup" sounds like a perfectly legal and legitimate exercise of power.

Why does the US condemn the action? I don't know. Probably, the (former) President was an ally. Although, why would expect the U.S. Corporation to respect the rule of law in any other country, when it doesn't respect the rule of law here.

I wonder what would happen if Bill Clinton or George Bush tried to extend their presidency to a third-term? My guess - the exact same thing.
