Oh No! The Future of lewrockwell.com

Glenn Jacobs, the professional wrestler Kane, is a great Ron Paul supporter, a student of Austrian economics, and a daily reader and fervent supporter of Lew Rockwell's site. He's asking all of us to help LRC stay alive with a donation today:

Please do what I've just done -- Please go to the link in Glenn's article and help LRC today.
Thank you very much........

Like Cable TV

They started subscription type tv services and promised no commercials. Now look what has happened. The internet will be no different if the sites ask for donations instead of getting ads. Eventually we will have to pay to get into the sites, plus see the ads.

Pretty cool.

I would have never guessed that Kane the wrestler is a huge Ron Paul fan and student of Austrian economics. That just goes to show the massive diversity amongst those involved in the Revolution. Ron Paul should have Glenn Jacobs as a body guard during his run for the big seat(hopefully).

Every couple months…

… someone at Lew Rockwell asks for donations to keep the site going. I like LewRockwell.com. I generally visit the site several times a week. This is a VERY popular site and I simply do not understand why Lew does not have advertisers to help with expenses. I mean, look at the Drudge report. Matt Drudge runs and edits his one page site all by himself and makes a killing doing it. Drudge has only a handful of advertisers. Similarly, LewRockwell.com is a one page web site.

One of my favorite Lew Rockwell columnists is Gary North. He has his own web site and makes money hand over fist.

I am not a big fan of being carped at for donations for web content. The mere fact LewRockwell.com draws thousands of visitors a day is worth money. I make Lew's site more valuable simply by clicking on his site.

Web sites should be self sustaining and run on their popularity. What I'm saying is that as great as Lew Rockwell is, if he cannot make enough money with one of the best web sites on the net, perhaps he should hire a professional to help the site become profitable.

Ok, I'm done with my diatribe. Now go donate to Lew's site if you are so inclined.

Solution to tyranny: “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Mahatma Gandhi

“Just look at us. Everything is backwards; everything is upside down. Doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, universities destroy knowledge, governments destroy freedom, the major media destroy information and religions destroy spirituality”

In this economy many businesses

are suffering, as well as activities that depend on contributions. If Rockwell can afford a a business consultant, that might be helpful.

Academics and even Austrian economists aren't necessarily excellent businesspeople too. It's a different area of expertise, and just (!) writing, editing contributor content, running a site, making continual public appearances, traveling to do so, and taking the stress of being personally on the leading front of the fight against tyranny is a lot for any one individual.

I hope that those of us who can chip in a few bucks will support this great libertarian resource and the wonderful work Lew Rockwell.com does to spread the ideas of liberty.

Desert Rat - quick question for ya

I tend to agree with you and get disgusted everytime I see the bailout donations needed drive pop up, but you mentioned Gary North, who I believe is the publisher, editor etc of Republic magazine. I subscribe to their publication and find it an amazing source of information. Recently, they sent out emails to their subscribers needing money, then the next week one begging for it and bashing those of us who had not done so.

I am not familiar with the dynamics of the publishing industry, but my gut was that a magazine or any publication should be produced/financed by the advitisers, a subscription simply paid the cost of getting the product to the consumer.

I haven't donated to them, I don't usually frequent lewrockwell but I too wonder about all the sinking ships begging for money, yet promoting free market capitalism hum?

Ron Paul cured my apathy - I cured my ignorance!
!!!Truth is treason in the EMPIRE OF LIES!!!

" Single acts of tyranny may be ascribed to the accidental opinion of they day; but a series of oppresssions...pursued unalterably, through every change of ministers, too plainly proove delibrate, systematical plan of reducing us to slavery..."
Tho

Gary North doesn't publish Republic Magazine

George Shepard is the publisher and Gary Franchi is the editor

You were a far off there. But I do agree that they should stop with the if you don't sponsor a patriot, the blood is on your hands type fund raising.

quote

from Lew's new book The Left, The Right and The State

What is the state? It is the group within society that claims for itself the exclusive right to rule everyone under a special set of laws that permit it to do to others what everyone else is rightly prohibited from doing, namely aggressing against person and property.

Why would any society permit such a gang to enjoy an unchallenged legal privilege? Here is where ideology comes into play. The reality of the state is that it is a looting and killing machine. So why do so many people cheer for its expansion? Indeed, why do we tolerate its existence at all?

The very idea of the state is so implausible on its face that the state must wear an ideological garb as means of compelling popular support. Ancient states had one or two: they would protect you from enemies and/or they were ordained by the gods.

To greater and lesser extents, all modern states still employ these rationales, but the democratic state in the developed world is more complex. It uses a huge range of ideological rationales—parsed out between left and right—that reflect social and cultural priorities of niche groups, even when many of these rationales are contradictory.

The left wants the state to distribute wealth, to bring about equality, to rein in businesses, to give workers a boost, to provide for the poor, to protect the environment.

The right, on the other hand, wants the state to punish evildoers, to boost the family, to subsidize upright ways of living, to create security against foreign enemies, to make the culture cohere, and to go to war to give ourselves a sense of national identity.

So how are these competing interests resolved? They logroll and call it democracy. The left and right agree to let each other have their way, provided nothing is done to injure the interests of one or the other. The trick is to keep the balance. Who is in power is really about which way the log is rolling. And there you have the modern state in a nutshell.
