Reading the Declaration of Independence

It's a tradition that seems to have died out. But we should never forget the reason for the holiday. It's not just another day to go out boating or eat hot dogs or take a day off of work.

Here I am, reading the Declaration of Independence, on July 4th, 2009, in front of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington DC. I just got up and did it. No permits, no nothing.

Way to go!

Since I've only been a daddy for just over a year now, and my family is relatively new, I've started a family tradition of my own. On the evening of the Fourth of July, I read the Declaration of Independence aloud for my wife and small child. In the coming years I will continue to do so. I hope as my family grows and matures, we will all look forward to hearing the words that helped bring forth this nation and those values that we keep fighting for.

great line

"he has sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance."

That is what the Fourth of July is all about!

Thank you, and job well done.

very cool of you!

very cool of you!

WELL DONE!!!

I saw some folks that seemed to be listening for a short period.
At about 3:40, a small group stopped and it almost seemed as if they were afraid to proceed up the steps. But after about 45 seconds, they moved on up. People must realize, without those words, not only would they not have a reason to be there, but perhaps, they may not be able to be where they wish to be.
And might I add: I am so proud of you. It brought a tear to my eyes.

Great Job

It is very sad no one stopped to listen. They were all too busy. Very sad.

The elitists that founded

This big plantation knew that by the time it became necessary to break the bonds of guberment... it would already be too late for us. They knew it. All the fancy mumbo jumbo they wrote was nothing more than adverse psychology. The used it just long enough to get the job done.

You know

you might even be right. Now what? Just throw out these pieces of paper and try to write something better?

Why re-write anything?

And even if you did, you would end up right back in the same boat. The pieces of paper were worthless anyway to us, right after TAXATION. In a free society, you have the freedom to choose what you will do with the fruits of your labor. You don't in this one.

ok

I would love to read some anarchy thought. Link please?

Good for you kid!

Everyone around you should have STOPPED what they were doing and listened to EVERY WORD.

Instead, the American lemmings largely ignored you and most likely had NO IDEA what you were reading.

Being they mostly were taught in Federal Dept of Education run schools, you might as well have been speaking a foreign language to them.

But keep up the good work.

If I had been there I would have shook your hand!

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

we need more of this type of action to remind people.

very nice! you should be very proud of you, i know i am.

Good job

If more of us would just go out to our capitols and start this we could raise some eyebrows at the political elite.
