Ship them to me and I take care of them.

They make great feed for pigs.

that was possibly the worst

poll i've ever seen. i wouldn't do any of those things, so i didn't even vote on it. i would volunteer to put an extra option on that if they'd like me to.

LOL -- Good point Annica2

I was thinking the same thing

I was wondering let where "don't kill the horses and let them live free" was, but then I laughed and remembered how important some type of central planning is required even for horses on that site.

Option 1 -- Government control and slaughter
Option 2 -- Option Two Government control with Eugenics required
Option 3 -- More Government control

Re: LOL..........

That is a political trick and must be noted.

It's called the "missing alternative syndrone."

It is important that especially we, DP'ers understand this concept because many a time the people just go along with the stated options.

No, it is not a state

No, it is not a state problem. The horses belong to the Bureau of Land Management.

Re: No, it is nat a state

Well yeah.............

Isn't that the problem with most everything today?

It sure should be left to the states.

Once again...........

This is something that is really a state issue, let the states decide!

That would be fine

If the individual States controlled the land. Until control and ownership are wrested from the feds, the States have no say in the matter. Not Constitutional for the Feds to own most of the western States? Take 'em to court and see who wins. Yes, the game is rigged.

Well yeah..........

Isn't that the problem with most everything today?.........

Your point??

This is about the number killed every year. If anyone does not like it, perhaps they should adopt a few out of the holding pens.

Sounds like one heck of a barbecue.

They should have planned it better, for the 4th of July! Oh, well, I am sure there will be something left to slaughter by then.

Just need to 'redesignate' them as terrorist horses....

Then the whole f*cking country will be behind it.

Or tell us it's 'for the children'.

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

Hasn't it been proven that

Hasn't it been proven that serial killers start out by killing animals?

This is year old news. The

This is year old news. The horses are the ones that have been deemed unadoptable, due to age, infirmities, or temperment. They are the ones Mrs. T.Boone Pickens wants to build a sanctuary for.

They can't be turned back out because of the number of horses, deer, bison, antelope, and so on are fighting for what little feed there is out there. If steps aren't taken ALL of them are going to starve.

There are still plenty of wild horses and burros left out there on public lands. No, I do not support offing these animals, but I can understand the why. There is currently a bill moving through Congress that wild horses will not be allowed to be kept in holding pens for more than six months and outlines what is considered to be cruelty or neglect under the Wild Horse Act. Sorry, I don't have the bill number at my fingertips.

One of the reasons I intially started looking at Ron Paul is he is anti-NAIS, and if I am correct he is also against shipping horses to Mexico for slaughter.

Well, yes, you do have common sense!

Until horses could no longer be slaughtered here in the U.S., the meat was shipped to other countries that do eat horse meat, and some was used in pet food.
Too many wild horses are a problem in our area. Horses will pull up the grass by the roots when grazing, and their population increases so fast that it is not good for the environment, nor does it leave enough renewable feed for the next year.
It is more cruel to let an animal starve to death than to euthanize it.

At the least this meat should be used to feed hungry

are they just planning on slaughtering these horses and tossing the corpses?

Clearly, that is not God-loving activity.

Lucky for us they still need our tax money

Sheesh, when they decide we're no longer necessary I'm sure we can expect the same treatment.

They wouldn't exist if...

the federal government did not own that land. It should sell all land to private parties.

horses are not pests to exterminate, they are animals to protect

Why kill horses that are wild. Why not relocate them somewhere else that is safe? Or just let go of them, and let them live freely because we don't own the world.
pest control companies

They are relocating them somewhere else that is safe NOW,

and they are taking care of them very well---at Taxpayer's Expense! If they were turned loose to "live Freely" as you suggest, ultimately they would starve, and other animals would starve as well because of lack of feed with too many animals relying on it. Starving an animal is much more cruel than euthanizing. or even slaughtering.
The BLM does try to find adoptive homes for the horses, but adoption is down because of the economy. No one can afford to purchase feed for the horses and provide care.
Another sad thing is that, because of this--people are turning their pets out into the national forests when they can no longer feed them.
