What do all these broke states have in common?

0 votes

Fiirst I would like to toot my own horn , I am a man of limited education ,I did not go to some fancy expensive college and collect a piece of paper that says Im an economist ,nor am I some political beuracrat on some congresstional exploratory comimtee. And though I aspire to be an amateur editorialist "amateur " Is what I am at best .But there is one thing that I have figured out that no one else on the internet or anywhere else has and that is that all these states like Arizonia ,California ,New York ,Pennslyvania,Rode Island ,Ohio,,llinois New Jersey Georgia and Massachusetts have one thing in common and that is they are all broke, Where as states like Alaska ,Tennessee,Florida .South Dakota ,Texas and Wyoming are NOT on the broke list. What is the big difference between these two categories of states ? ALL the states in the first categorie have a state INCOME tax whereas all the state in the second categorie DO NOT......................Now I can only speak for the state of Texas when I tell you that we use an 8% sales tax and we are billions in the BLACK. This is what I have come up with and I didnt need some fancy degree to figure that out.

Hey, lancealotlink,

"amateur" is not synonymous with "novice". An amateur can be world class at something; it just means that he doesn't do it for a living.

Lots of people with university degrees never read another book after graduation. It's the avid readers-with or without degrees- who take note of the "for further reading" sections at the end of books who actually build knowledge and know something.

Thanks for the encouragment Carrot Top

Im sure alot of those politicians who divised the income tax had degrees .Your not the comedian Carrot Top are you?Always wanted to ask you that

What we do have in Texas is high property taxes.

Here lies the problem with our great state of Texas. My property taxes are about 18% of my gross income right now. I find this to be a problem because my income dropped by 30% and my property taxes went up by $3000 this year. So while we are tooting our own horn we might just want to think about what is happening. All the other states have mercy on their people because their income dropped. In Texas we continue to get hammered and possibly thrown out of our house if we lose our job. So basically Texas has found a way to bleed its people even in a bad economy.....right into bankruptcy. I would prefer an income tax right about now over this property tax burden!

Maybe you should

write to Debra Medina about this problem she running for Governor this could be an issue she could hammer on seriously.{didnt realize because I rent }

great point!

Maybe the Federal government could learn something from this? ;)

Great thought

You seriously need to editorialize your own article though. Here's all the spelling and punctuation problems I saw (grammar could be cleaned up too, but eh, good enough):

hmmm

how about letting people get their message across how they want to...and don't start in on how grammatical errors will keep us from advancing the revolution some how... Surely you have better uses for your skills than to run around with a red ink pen.

The dude says he wants to be an editor

Also it gets the message off alot easier if people can read the correctly spelled words then guess at the words. It doesn't matter what type of education the guy has, if he looks more professional in his writing it will be picked up by outside sources. There have been many mainstream links to daily paul articles from well thought out or documented sources. Googling anything about Ron Paul normally comes up with a daily paul link on the first page. A link to his information would also be helpful to corroborate his claim.

'editor' & 'editorialist' are not the same thing..

editorialists submit (mostly opinionated) copy to editors, who then decide what gets cut and what goes to print..and everybody is obligated to muster their best grammar & spelling so the copyeditor isnt overwhelmed with '101' corrections.

Yeah I know

The little red thingy even pops up when I type a lot like alot , I'm not saying I don't make mistakes or I don't ever choose to ignore the red thingy underneath words, I just made a few spelling corrections. Maybe lance chooses to ignore the red thingy because he thinks his writing is more correct then the webster dictionary as well.

You just need a rototiller these days to be considered a genius!

You cannot make a meal out of those fancy college degrees.

lancealotlink..

You obviously have a great mind and I always enjoy your posts. I myself come from a family of teachers who wanted me to follow in their footsteps BUT I preferred parties and volleyball to class. Basically I was rebelling against the family and wanted to do my own thing...however I had agreed with the Big Man upstairs that my life was committed to him. I never felt like I accomplished anything because of the way I skipped around and never got my degree.. I started out...

Economics/Accounting...great grades and knowledge..just not going to sit behind a desk when I can see the sun shining..changed to

History/Greek and Roman History...Love history, but around Oklahoma only coaches "teach" history..and I wanted to teach ACTUAL history and why it is important to know your history and those around us...Changed to

Government and Politics...Loved more "history" but started to realize how screwed up the system is..I believe that this is where my seeds of liberty and freedom were first sewn....MUCH LATER after dropping out..changed to

Drafting and Design...My dad wrote those textbooks so there wasn't a purpose for me in college any more......

So there you have it...no piece of paper to say I accomplished a degree..and I wondered for years what the heck I was supposed to be doing. For now I believe that I am doing EXACTLY what I am supposed to be doing at this time...and I don't think that I would be as alert and knowledgeable if it weren't for my skipping around in college. Every one of my attempted paths gave me the foundation of knowledge that I need and use every day in conversation with others about freedom and liberty.

Long story short...

You lived your life for a reason, and you were given the tools to do exactly what you are supposed to do...right here...right now. Keep it up.

thanks for the encoragement Dale

I really dont mean to sound like i have a chip on my shoulder .I do have some college just never stuck around to collect that piece of paper.

That is perfectly fine..

I don't know anything about you really but in all truthfulness...if you had gotten your degree, and your life was wrapped around a field and accomplishments, would you be aware of the world around you as it is now? I'm pretty sure that if I had went on to become an accountant that I would probably be thinking Ron Paul is a complete loon...hopefully not...but that possibility is there.

You are on the right path...the degree might have taken you down a different road..with great benefits in the meantime but ending in sorrow and true ignorance.

um, sorry, but Alaska is seriously in the red

or so it stands unless they cut about 30% this next fiscal year.

But you are correct on the other states. I think though it has more to do with business climate in general. Texas (my neighbor) has four of the 'safest' cities economic wise in a recent listing of 20 across the country. (all in the top ten)

These states seem to vary drasticly

on thier budget surplus and deficiet from year to year and I guess its all how you cook the uhhhh I mean balance the books .For instance fathead said that Texas budget was not balanced when in 2008 it showed an 11 billion dollar surplus. Thats quite a swing in one year. My whole point is that the states that rely on an income tax seem to be in serious dire strats Like California or Arizonia who are starting to pass out IOUs.While overall the states with no income tax seem to be doing alot beter.

Exactly my point....

By asserting our sovereignty, our states could bring the Federal Government to its knees standing by the 10th amendment & keeping the foreign army out by cutting off all tax funds to the Federal.

They can do it, and all it takes is a few member states. Ten or so states, when witnessing the destruction of America, so too would be the destruction of the Federal Reserve.

I'd pay to see the FED BURN into the ethers after the criminals I've actively fought.....They deserve no drawn, and no quarter..

The States technically still do have the powers bestowed upon them. And the peace keeping force necessary to back it up, since those states who have no Income Tax, are prospering.....the others are going down with the Beast.

You have that naturally and through your own good efforts. Thanks for the interesting post.

Good one!

Good one!

Coming from one of those broke states...

..I can tell you it is the proportion of those working for a living as opposed to those swinging on the government teat.

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

And they....

Have nearly all of them, asserted the 10th amendment. I think we'll have to do just what Madison said.

Cut off all aid to the Federal Government and let it fail while working out the remaining stumbling blocks & taking control of the Federal Reserve etc.....

This country was never cut out to be a democracy because it has always been a republic.

Yes Last

my wife is from New Jersey and she says the same thing as a matter of fact her former boss has been unemployed for almost a year and combined with state and fed he collect 1800 a month .!800 A MONTH are you kidding me why would anyone try and get a job when they are collecting 1800 a month .But I also know that you also have an income tax and not a sales tax.

Let me guess.

I think all those broke states you mentioned already have a sales tax, and an income tax....it's the same old story....politicians just love to spend other peoples money and the more you give them the more different ways they can think of to spend it.

We pay the salaries of state legislators through taxation, who spend months debating how to spend more than the previous years budget every year......and get much bigger salaries and benefits than workers in the production end of society.

What a Farce !!!

beesting

Beesting perhaps your right

Im sure we can get some verification either way on that but when you have every state that I mentioned that is going broke and all of them have a state income tax and every state that I mentioned does not have one and they are not on the broke list there is a GLARING difference.

So you now can see why proponents of big government

want the fair tax for the federal government. The fair tax is nothing more than a gigantic sales tax.

Even here in Missouri where we have an income tax and a sales tax some of the politicians have been pushing the idea of eliminating the income tax and implementing a state version of the "fair tax".

These plunderers know how to plunder, do they not!

The problem is not how states tax, but how much they spend.
