CO2, one of the most wonderful and necessary gases on earth, is totally over-rated as to man's influence! It is given off by cars and all other chemical reactions involving oxidation/reduction, or the burning, slow or fast, of hydrocarbon compounds, even people breathing out... the process is completely natural, necessary to life on earth, and as such should be encouraged!
As to the effect of CO2 produced by man on the environment... that is a fraud of monstrous proportions. The combined release of CO2 gases from volcanic action world wide, IN ONE DAY, exceeds all the CO2 man has produced in his history!!! Go figure now just how much man produces in a day? a week?, a month, a year? It has no significance globally, none measurable, and in fact, in it's own small way helps the environment.
I for one, instead of just green, enjoy viewing the brown of clear cuts, at once producing new growth for animals, and cheaper fuels to burn for natural heat for man, and less costly homes made of wood!!
The automobile saved the lives of countless people in the cities, once the horses numbering in the 100s of thousands, ceased dying on the streets of big cities, and removed the unsanitary conditions of poop several inches deep, in winter, or manure dust in summer. On the streets of Chicago, even after the invention of the automobile, there were picked up in one year thousands of dead horses!
Further, in the 1940's one could touch down in Los Angeles, sit on the runway for 10 minutes, and then need to wipe the soot from one's nose, accumulated from breathing the soot laden air through which you could hardly see. Contrast that with the clean air produced from the corporations search for efficiency, of the 1950's and after, which, though there is smog and it's side effects, remains far cleaner than prior... yes we have much to be thankful for, but it is not due the restrictions of the Marxist and free market suppressing environmental movement, but the free market driven and sensible entrepreneurship of a free people.
Whether they remain free depends much on whether they remain liberty minded, selfless and not desirous of their neighbor's wealth, and willing to be vigilant, to forge such chains as need be hung around the necks of the elected, willing to break those chains when oaths are broken, or when the need arises, to amend the instrument to which public servants have sworn subservience!
You are the generation it now appears, providentially provided with the knowledge, the grassroots, and means to return to the days of vigilance, and therefore the days of freedom and limited government. By that means, once again that heritage will be passed on to generations yet to come.

This chart has nothing to do with Wiki it shows historical CO2 (right axis) and reconstructed temperature (as a difference from the mean temperature for the last 100 years) records based on Antarctic ice cores, providing data for the last 800,000 years.
Sorry, but we do have a problem with high CO2 levels in the atmosphere. And a bigger problem with the acceleration of, or rate change of CO2 in the atmosphere.
The recent legislation only lessens the chance that understanding and remediation of the problem will occur. Instead of actually capping and trading carbon credits the new law is another masssive taxation sceme to enslave the people.
Ice Cores:
Not factually accurate. They are ok for the information they detail, but if we have more melting in the summer of 1 year than we had in buildup of the winter, there is no record of that year. When we have an extended period of warmth, many prior years or history can be wiped out.
CO2:
The warmer the oceans get, we have more CO2 in the atmosphere. The ocean contributes over 50% of the CO2 out there. If the people who want to decrease CO2 emissions were serious, rather than trying to tax it for revenue (an obvious give away that washington doesn't care about this issue) they would give taxbreaks to people who buy and plant trees.
I am all for electric cars and such, so that I can live in a big city and breath fresher air. But if it was so important to me to have fresh air I'd move to a suburb or to a farm.
And I get soooo tired of the talking points.
The earth has gone through periods of having no ice and being covered greatly in ice. We have had volcanoes and fires happening all over the globe contributing in a day more than a human society can contribute in a lifetime. Did you know we are still in an "Ice Age" because we have Ice on the planet?
"Quaternary glaciation, also known as the Pleistocene glaciation, the current ice age or simply the ice age, refers to the period of the last few million years. In which permanent ice sheets were established in Antarctica and perhaps Greenland, and fluctuating ice sheets have occurred elsewhere"

I'm not trying to entirely dismiss your argument. I know the perspective you're coming from. I'm just saying that you can't chalk up years of climate research as false on the basis of "correlation doesn't imply causation." Nature isn't a nice, linear system to begin with... so the time gap, so to speak, isn't completely trivial to ignore or use as an argument without some solid math behind it.
With that said, last I read, insolation (the amount of energy reaching the Earth's surface) has been down in recent decades while temperatures have gone up. BUT, as I said in my last post, it seems like the public is in need of a nice, clean list of issues and scientific responses. I recall seeing one article that was supposed to dismiss the "sun theory" only to dismiss an entirely different one... why?
So overall I completely empathize with both supporters and detractors of the "CO2 theory." It seems to me that if folks could put suspicions and politics aside and get a good look at 1- the reasons behind the theory 2- the accuracy of the research 3- the margin of error and 4- the costs of action versus inaction across this margin, then we could all make an intelligent decision.

Now the tricky part is..... why does nature cool down some years and warm up others? One good reason we are not on a "fixed" course around our sun. Some years we swing closer to the sun, others we don't. (our winter in the northern Hemisphere is when the earth is at it's closest point to the sun. )

not if you look at the whole picture
by comparisons to solar cycles, co2 is a drop in a bucket.

this is because our oceans which take on co2 release it into the atmosphere when evaporated.
