We already have government-run health care

Last year total health care spending was $2.4 trillion. Medicare and Medicaid alone spent $800 billion or 33% (counting the states' share of Medicaid). THat doesn't count the VA and all of the smaller government subsidized and managed care. Government already provides over half of all health care delivered in the US now, which is the sole reason that it's so expensive. Obama's plan will merely expand what already exists. We need to change the present system - by getting government out of it entirely.

Tom Mullen

i was going to say that myself.

managed health care is socialized health care. or fascist health care, either way. still government run. to look at a good untouched market, we should look at doctors and pharmacies in india.

Judge is the best!

Using Glenn's platform to get Rand a bunch of attention he otherwise probably wouldn't have got!

A short look at why some Americans still don't get Ron Paul, and why they are unable to fathom the danger we are now in because of the Federal Reserve.

Switzerland has managed

Switzerland has managed healthcare too but government only pays 24% of the costs (US government pays 45%) and 99% of people is covered. The main difference is that swiss government does not force employers to provide insurance. And in Netherlands private insurances pay 1/3 of the costs, like in America, but 99% is covered as well. It means that even this managed health model can be handled MUCH better.

Ironically, while many centre and northern european countries (even the swedish!) are privatizing hospitals and introducing co-payment and vouchers and other pro-choice consumer policies, America could nationalize healthcare.

Sorry for my english

It's okay, we understand you fine, and thank you for your

contribution! It's very good to get this information from a European as we would not otherwise know. It's most interesting.

Debbie

plus America is much bigger. No way

they can get this organized.
Like Rand said : look at the water distribution by FEMA after Katrina.

I am also from Europe, but live in the US. You wouldn't believe how amateurish a lot of gouvernment stuff is handled.

"I think it would be a good idea"

Mahatma Gandhi,
when asked what he thought of Western civilization

I was thinking that too...

reading virolai's post, that size might be a big factor. If the question were put to each and every state, each and every state would come up its own unique solution. I bet a few of them would even keep out of it and simply let the market work.

I recently watched The Fog of War, an excellent documentary about Robert S. McNamara, and in it McNamara gives the total hospital cost for having his first child. A whopping one-hundred dollars, for which he used a payment plan. There I go again, getting into that other, in my mind even more pressing subject : what has the government done to our money?

Charles Paine

Great interview! But i have to take issue with Charles Paine he says 90% are happy with our current health care system. Now that's BS, we don't want gov run health care, but the system we have now is in trouble they should talk about solutions of how to make it better. Such as what Ron and Rand Paul have mentioned. Get the goverment out of health care all together.

Its not enought for republicans to only talk about the danger of goverment health care, they need to offter alternative solutions as well. ie. tax credits, etc.

Agreed! Just get the Federal Gov't out of it altogether

and let the States handle it! Please! It's called the 10th amendment!

Debbie
