HR 1207: Getting creative with Rep. Hal Rogers--You can too!
I'm in KY's 3rd District represented by John Yarmuth (D) and I've called his office about HR 1207. I'm not hopeful about him so I decided to concentrate my efforts on the last four Representatives on the Republican "List of Shame"...specifically Rep. Hal Rogers. (R- KY 5th).
He's not in my district but since I'm a Republican Precinct Captain in the Jefferson County (KY) Republican Party I felt I should work this problem through the Party system.
After some searching I found a .PDF on RPK.org (KY state GOP website) with contact information for every local GOP County Committee in the state. I then checked Rep. Rogers' website to see the counties in his district (29 total!) and started compiling email addresses of the county GOP Chairmen (or Vice-Chairmen). I wound up with a total of 17 contacts.
Click title for full details.
I have FULL DETAILS of my efforts on the Louisville Rand Paul Meetup including names, links, my letter to the County GOP Chairmen and their responses as I receive them.

LESSON: This is an additional "Avenue of Approach" with the four Republicans on the "List of Shame" http://www.dailypaul.com/node/92621
If you are a Republican Precinct Captain or any other officer of the Party (and many of us still are) then leverage that position by contacting the Republican Party groups within these Representatives districts!
Get creative!

The three replies I've gotten from two GOP County Chairmen...
IN HAL ROGERS' DISTRICT:
Mr. Strickland,
I agree with you completely he should have already signed this, I will be making calls today to his office to find out his intentions. If he is not I will mobilize all of our Republicans in my county party to start calling him.
I went online and verified he had not co-sponsored it but could you tell me whom the other 3 Republicans are for reference when I write about this issue.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Bryan Mills
Chair, Laurel County Republican Party
AND:
Mr. Strickland,
First I want to thank you for bringing this to my attention. It is not always easy to keep track of all of the legislation that is flying around DC and Frankfort, while still trying to keep an eye on the antics of local government.
Secondly, I want to assure you I will defiantly pass this information around to EVERYONE I know, not just Republicans. This is an American issue, not just a Republican issue.
Third, I will personally call AND write to Rep. Rogers to let him know of my disappointment in his lack of attention regarding this matter.
Thank you
Art Jones
Lee County Republican Party Chairman
"If men of wisdom and knowledge, of moderation and temperance, of patience, fortitude and perseverance, of sobriety and true republican simplicity of manners, of zeal for the honour of the Supreme Being and the welfare of the commonwealth; if men possessed of these other excellent qualities are chosen to fill the seats of government, we may expect that our affairs will rest on a solid and permanent foundation."
--Samuel Adams, letter to Elbridge Gerry, November 27, 1780
AND ONE MORE FROM MR. JONES:
Mr. Strickland,
Your reply acted as a follow-up for me and I just got off the phone with his office. I will follow that up with an email, and snail mail to let his office know just how serious I take this situation.
I have already received an email from an old friend in Oklahoma that is also calling her Rep. to put a fire under them from her state, and I am sure many others have done the same without contacting me.
I’m afraid I can’t take credit for digging up the Sam Adams quote, I subscribe to the patriot post, and they do all the homework for the quotes. I simply pull the ones that strike me as relevant, and add them to my signature file.
The quote below tells me, that if the world has anything to be mad at the US over, it has been our lack of fight to maintain our freedoms from our own government. All of the riots in China, North Korea, Iran, etc. … All of those people fighting for their rights, yet here in the beacon of hope to the world, we now have over 30 czars dictating to us.
For your pleasure,
"We have therefore to resolve to conquer or die: Our won Country's Honor, all call upon us for vigorous and manly exertion, and if we now shamefully fail, we shall become infamous to the whole world. Let us therefore rely upon the goodness of the Cause, and the aid of the supreme Being, in whose hands Victory is, to animate and encourage us to great and noble Actions."
-- George Washington (General Orders, 2 July 1776)

You Judge A Tree By It's Fruit, NOT its Flower
Great
Now we need to all gang up on Yarmuth. We need an organized effort. Are you in Rogers district?
I am not in his district.
I am not in his district. Yarmuth's office told me they will ONLY talk with people from his district. Is there a meet-up in his district that will take this on?
You Judge A Tree By It's Fruit, NOT its Flower
Not sure
I'm not sure what else we can do. I took 80 some petitions up to his office about a month and a half ago. Mike was nice enough to put him on the list right after that. I'm just not sure what we can do. Any ideas besides our daily fax bomb which Mike said he will do on Monday?
Hey, Ill be sure to include
Hey, Ill be sure to include Yarmuth in Monday's phone bomb! Good job to all you people in KY for getting Rogers on board!

Good Luck. I am a princinct
Good Luck. I am a princinct captain too, and I also have discovered how effective it is to let them know that you are walking the precincts and calling the shots.
Great Idea
I'm curious to see if this works. I'm in Jefferson too. We collected 80 some petitons and I delivered them to Yarmuth's office about a month and a half ago. I think your strategy is our only hope to get him to sign on. If everyone else has we can put a lot more pressure on him. How did the county chairman receive your input? I'm a precinct captain too.
How did the county chairmen receive your input?
Very well from the two replies I received. Go to the Louisville Rand Paul Meetup post to read their emails.

Another Poster
Someone in another post just said he got off the phone with Rogers office and he has just signed on. I think you did it. Great job man.
Wow
I just read the letters. That is awesome and a great idea. When I get some time I will print a letter similiar to yours and mail them out next week. That was and is an awesome idea. Thank you. I recognized your name but can't place you. Maybe it was thrown around on our list during the conventions but it is certainly familiar. What LD are you in? Is your LD very active? Have you guys had any meetings?
Comments?
I'd really like to get Rep. Hal Rogers on board which will leave my Congressman Rep. John Yarmuth exposed as the only member of the KY delegation who hasn't cosponsored
