... Many set-ups that seem as though they should work don’t. In one scene, Brüno gets former presidential candidate Ron Paul, R-Lake Jackson, in a hotel room and tries to seduce him. Paul rushes out of the room horrified and, guess what, it’s not funny: A serious, accomplished man takes time out to do an interview. He’s treated appallingly, reacts with anger … and we’re supposed to think less of him? Don’t think so.

GLAAD is worng
GLAAD is the one reinforcing negative stereotypes. According to them, gays and lesbians are too weak to take a joke. But the really stupid part is that the joke is not directed against gays. The jokes are directed squarely American cultural ignorance. Come on! Paula Abdul talking about human rights while using an immigrant as a piece of furniture??? Someone looks bad in that scene, but it isn't the gays.
Bruno is as powerful a statement against homophobia as has been seen in a Movie since Milk. And more people will probably see this film.
We should campaign at the movie
Let people know the real Ron Paul. Pass out DVD's Pamphlets, whatever you can do - use our creativity.
Maybe a little non-violent civil disobedience during the Ron Paul scene. - That would get on the news as well.
This is an opportunity, we should use it before it is over.
Didn't they need Ron's permission or release
to put the scene in the movie? Seems to me that a movie producer has to get some sort of release or written permission for legal purposes.

We laughed our asses off. This movie did nothing to humiliate Ron Paul, and it was just more media exposure.
Remember the axiom: The only thing worst than being talked about is not being talked about.

I always find it odd that some of the "freedom lovers" are also the first to try to shut others down and sometimes even spew hate.
The beauty of freedom is you can express yourself as long as it isn't untrue.
You find Bruno offensive, but what about TV? Start with CNN, CBS, NBC, FOX etc. There are some really offensive stuff on there.

I agree 100%. People are up in arms over something ridiculous and stupid. There is absolutely no reason to be offended! Paul's treatment by the MSM and his fellow candidates on stage during the primaries were MILLIONS of times worse.

You can't have it both ways. You can't have freedom of speech without being ready to encounter many things you consider offensive and or undesirable. I find people pushing Christianity extremly offensive, but am I going to boycott them? Of course not.... what would be the point? They have the right to say what they want, I have the right not to listen. This film is a commercial/for profit venture. Let the market sort it out. If you don't like it, don't pay to see it. If the "public" rejects it in a free market, it will fail. If not, and it succeeds, then it's not our place to allow another to have "freedom of speech" only as long as we agree with it. Of course it's your right to speak out against it, also, but "boycotts" are usually a huge waste of time. Put your energy into trying to get the FED audited or waking people up to the 9/11 conspiracy instead. Those issues COULD actually make a difference. This "Bruno" thing is just a distraction and a convienant place for people to feel "holier than thou" and show off their "righteous indignation". Grow a pair and move on.

Borat was funny. I'm pretty sure he didn't target Dr. Paul. He probably tries to get a lot of interviews but is turned down by most. The campaign for liberty should have sniffed this one out, Borat was huge, someone could have realized.
By the way, does anyone really think that Dr. Paul was made a fool? Not I, I don't think it's possible.

As usual, Ron Paul shines
Even in Bruno's piece of trash movie, Dr. Paul always sticks to his principles, and got out of there in a hurry telling it like it is.
I'm personally proud of how well he acted in this situation. It was good to see him speak up. Whomever set this up however needs to be fired. The absolute lack of judgement by the person who set up this meeting is what will hurt Dr. Paul and this movement.
The queer comment is completely appropriate for what was being done by that jerkoff Bruno.

If I remember correctly
Jesse Benton set the interview up, just like he did for Bob Barr when he worked for him. And we all saw how that turned out.
But the story is, they contacted Dr. Pauls office under the guise that they were doing an interview on Austrian Economics. Since the Bruno character is from Austria, I am not sure it would have been so obvious that it was Cohen.
But once on set however, whoever was with Dr. Paul should have known from the get go something was not right and aborted pans all together.
