My parents were at the debate tonight, though not on the inside. They watched the debate from the Paladium theatre nearby. Here are some highlights.
*The Ron Paul people they had in the actual debate hall crowd were encouraged. They said there was an overall favorable reaction to Ron Paul whenever he spoke from people who weren't already his fans. They were very upbeat coming out of the debate hall.
*People generally thought the McCain exchange went well. He looked stupid saying that the military was against Ron Paul, only to have Ron Paul reply that he gets the most money from the military.
*The FL Ron Paul meetups rented a park next to the debate hall as well as the Paladium Theatre, filled with 800 supporters. Ron Paul came to speak after and seemed very upbeat and excited, especially about the financial support.
*There was a giant yacht with Ron Paul's face on the side of it blaring patriotic music. According to people inside the hall, Huckabee asked "Did you arrive here in that boat?"
*There was a plane with a Ron Paul banner
*Giuliani commented to Ron Paul, "Gee, you have a lot of supporters." Ron Paul replied, "This is only the beginning."
*They had huge sign waves with banners that seemed to get a lot of media coverage. No other candidates had people holding signs.
*There were about 160 anti-war protesters who came to protest the Republicans and were shocked to see ONLY fellow anti-war (i.e. Ron Paul) supporters in attendance.
*The police commented that the Ron Paul people were the best crowd they ever dealt with. People were constantly thanking them for their service and recommending Ron Paul to them.
*The supporters were, according to my mom, a mix of "classy rich-looking people and hippy-looking people and people from all walks of life."
*Ron Paul said he saw "Dr. Paul cured my apathy," and said, "You've cured my skepticism" and "No army can stop an idea once it gets started."

I thought RP had a bit of a poor performance and that was one reason why? I was watching pretty closely. anyone else not hear it?

there were TWO boats and TWO planes and the city of St. Pete was literally covered in Ron Paul signs. Ron Paul supporters at the Republican strawpoll outnumbered every other candidates supporters by 50 - 1.; However i talked to alot of people that said Mitt Romney supports were purchasing multiple tickets and voting numerous times. Anything but a Ron Paul victory at this Stawpoll is an outright lie. I have a couple pics up in my photo section on myspace.com/lsdkuraa

I posted responses to articles at 4 publications today and yesterday. I watched all of the other RP youtube ads that did not win. I wrote another column which included the debate. And a superstar went out and planted 24 RON PAUL 2008 signs on the two busiest hiway ramps in my town.

The Romney campaign staffers used campaign money to purchase 50 voting tickets each at $20/ ticket. Each ticket entitled you to a vote, so 50tickets=50votes. Paul didn't lose because of lack of support, but because rules allowed Romney's campaign to buy votes.

First hand account
I just joined this forum. I was at the Palladium last night. The whole downtown area of Saint Petersburg was Paul Country. Paul actually came to speak there afterword. I really enjoyed it. I have heard much of what he has said before, but I was unaware of his presidential oratory ability. He seems unassuming, and he was abashed by our chanting of his name. He reveled in the fact that people were actually taking his ideas seriously. But he had complete control of himself. I trust him even more. He is not a power freak. He is a philosopher who is trying to rally support to distinctly American ideas and American economic philosophies. He is at war with European conservative thought, which is fascism. He is subtle to those who look for underlying ideology, yet blatent and populist for those who lack the ability to see under rhetoric. He is the only person I have ever heard who seeks power in order to truly tame it.
It is imperative for us to make this support stick. We can only do this by organizing voting operations. Along with our message spreading, we must begin to contemplate the political blocking and tackling necessary to ensure votes on election day. Organize voting parties. Carpool to the voting boothes. Don't vote alone, take at least one supporter with you. Look into becoming a precinct officer. Go to the polls and watch to make sure that Paul supporters are not turned away, and other candidate supporters allowed to skip rules. When other candidates realize Paul is starting to win it is going to get nasty. If you think it's bad now, just wait for the character assassination. Just remeber - Every single Paul supporter must be represented come voting day. To the extent we can ensure this, he will stand a very good chance of winning the nomination. To the extent we fail, this attention will be wasted.

I got even with CNN today and it felt good.
I was very upset about CNN so I spent the day making copies of Ron Paul flyers and writing letters to Iowa residents. It felt good, Write Ed Dickey eddiedickey@yahoo.com for address'. He has a lot of them that need to be personally written.
Anyway, I also went to get my haircut after making copies (of a flyer similar to the USA today ad). There were 2 elderly couples waiting. I handed them a flyer, joking that since they were waiting they might want something to read.
The older man watched the debate and noted that He really liked what Ron Paul had to say and that He noticed that they skiped over him a lot. And, that he thought Ron PAul had a great chance of being president. I think that add and all of the supporters have really had an effect. People are beggining to BELIEVE. THAT IS THE GREATEST THING THAT CAN HAPPEN.
Ron PAul can Win the nomination. Lets continue to build on this momentum. Write letter if you can. Or there is an Advokat telephone survey you can do.
Here is info about the Advocate call program that came from the Clear Lake Texas meetup group.
If any of you have been hesitant to join in the calling on the Advokit survey questions, let me express my personal assurance that it's easy, and you CAN blaze through 25-35 calls within an hour. (Can you spare just one hour of your time for Ron Paul?)
Martin and others have been urging meetup members to help in this effort, because if WE (that's you and me) don't volunteer and make the calls, who will?
For every 25-35 calls, you might only find between 1 and 5 people actually willing (or home) to answer the simple 14-question survey. That means answering machines, a quick "no-thanks" from the other end of the line, or busy signals the rest of the time. Pretty painless, huh? For those of you who have done "cold calling" before, calling for this survey might be about as easy as it gets.
For those who have never done anything like this...who might feel intimidated at the idea of calling strangers, its easier than you might think. ("Phone fear" can be common for folks who don't make calls for a living, myself included. We're just asking for opinions, however...not money, DNA samples, or someone's first-born. If you find a bona-fide Ron Paul supporter, you can encourage their further support or leave it to the sponsors for follow-up. No one's asking you to be a slick RP salesman if that's not your strong-suit.)
Actually connecting with a willing respondent is the best part. Whether they support RP or not, it's a pleasure to find someone who is willing to take part in the survey. Some will give you chuckles...and some will be so friendly it's a *genuine pleasure* making their brief acquaintance over the phone.
An important thing to remember: These phone numbers should be for REGISTERED VOTERS. Each has the potential for being a Ron Paul supporter. Through your calling efforts, each RP supporter found is one more voter we can urge to the Texas primary polls..and one more RP supporter who may have a number of like-minded buddies eager to volunteer/help RP get elected!
If you haven't tried already, get the Mozilla Firefox browser installed (if you don't already have it) and give it a whirl! Using Firefox, go to http://info.libertycoalition.us/ and click "Volunteer Now" in the upper right-hand of the page. Fill out your info, write down your userid/password and one of the sponsors will respond with instructions for how you can get started.

Great wrap-up of the days events, but here's a few additions and corrections.
We had a plane with a banner, and also a plane with an electric Ron Paul banner for at night.
We had two yachts with Ron Paul banners and a number of smaller boats.
We accounted for 90% of the attendance at the Florida straw poll, but came in second because Romney supporters were voting multiple time.
The actual quote at the end of Ron's speech was Victor Hugo's "One can resist the invasion of an army, but one cannot resist the invasion of ideas whose time has come".
