Why do we always trust the Scientific Community?

Renal researchers faked data
Posted by Bob Grant

This shows that there is corruption in this field as well as others. But whatever they say. We are to believe without exception. i.e. Global Warming.

Two researchers conducting animal studies on immunosuppression lied about experimental methodologies and falsified data in 16 papers and several grants produced over the past 8 years, according to the Office of Research Integrity (ORI).

The scientists, Judith Thomas and Juan Contreras, formerly at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), falsely reported that they performed double kidney removals on several rhesus macaques in experiments designed to test the effectiveness of two immune suppressing drugs -- Immunotoxin FN18-CRM9 and 15-deoxyspergualin (15-DSG) -- in preventing rejection of the a single transplanted kidney.

They ripped us off and lied about what they were accomplishing.

You never trust the scientist

You trust the method. The scientific method is what is of value not the individuals.
When you interfere with inquiry, like with government grants you will invite dubious behavior. You should trust a scientist no more than a doctor, lawyer or sales man.

If scientists want

to continue getting their grants and funding from the gov't and the big corporate foundations that "own" gov't, then they will do the research and get the conclusions that they are paid to get, or they are out of a job.

They have been reduced to political pawns in the machine, paid to manufacture "evidence" to support political positions.

I'm sure that there are still some "real scientists" around, but you won't hear anything about them, or from them.

I say the government has no

Business funding science. All the funding of science should come out of the private sector. Just like government has no business being involved in health care.

there can be no real

science without science of self observation.

we don't

trust scientist. We trust government which informs us which scientist to trust. We're worse off then you think.

You shouldn't trust....

You shouldn't trust the opinions of scientists. That's the point of science. You don't trust anything until it's been tested.
Obvious.

Do you ever worry when you start your car? Take aspirin? Plug in an appliance? Fly in an airplane? Stand atop a skyscraper?

All these things deal with powers and scales that would kill you dead in a millisecond if not for the work of scientists that discovered something about the Universe, and engineers who employed the knowledge.

You see... Scientists are the most trusted people in the world. They are so trusted that the foolish don't even realize the debt of recognition that they owe their betters. They are the most trusted because they built the world.

Don't trust scientists? Go live without technology. Ingrates.

You have Science confused with Technology.

The article was about scientific fraud performed in labs pretending to find "cures" by using vivisection and toxic chemicals, and falsifying data to receive millions of dollars in grants from the NIH.

Technology having to do with electronics, computers, musical equipment, home media, etc. is a different ball of wax. You shouldn't confuse the two.

Engineers are applied scientists

A scientific standard of truth is much much higher than that of your typical engineer.

Scientists are the most skeptical people on Earth.

"...debt of recognition that they owe their betters."

Yeah, I work around "scientists" all day. Most have a personal opinion and will not look at any evidence, even if it might prove them right. They tend to believe anything another "scientist" says, which is dangerous ( see the article above).

Only one out of four college degrees is worth the paper it is printed on.

By the way, you cannot be better than anyone else. We can only be good people ourselves. If you think you are better than someone else, then you are not being a very good you.

Done.

>>Only one out of four college degrees is worth the paper it is printed on.
Sure. Because we share the stage with Communications and Journalism majors.

Of course they have personal opinions. How could you expect them not to? Science is meant to diminish and/or eliminate personal opinion from explaining the world.

>>By the way, you cannot be better than anyone else.
Really? Then why are some of us scientists and engineers and some of us are fools making generalizations about "All" or "Most" scientists without being involved in the practice of science?

You know, science is not typically a profitable endeavor. It isn't even one that makes one famous. It's something people do because they want to understand the world.

To see all these people without the knowledge required to invent or create anything damn the men who created civilization from nothing but rock and fire makes me sick. It makes me sick to think that what I may discover or invent might benefit any of them.

I'd sooner burn my work.

I tell you what. This is my flame-out. My Perma-B&.
Fuck this group of ignorant people. Seriously... Fuck all of you Bible-humping ignorant intellectual throwbacks. Don't take vaccine. Don't believe in Natural selection. Go own believing fluoride kills people and chem-trails are a conspiracy against you. Jesus loves you, and you will certainly go to heaven when you die as reward for your rejection of reason in preference of faith.

It's a damn shame you share enough of my political beliefs that my views are occasionally confused with ideas that contain measurably less merit.

I worry

when I take aspirin. Much of what passes for "science" in the medical field isn't based on science at all.

Aspirin is a wonder drug, the most important med ever found.

Aspirin is an antioxidant that protects against lipid peroxidation, but it also stimulates mitochondrial respiration. It can inhibit abnormal cell division, but promote normal cell division. It can facilitate learning, while preventing excitotoxic nerve injury. It reduces clotting, but it can decrease excessive menstrual bleeding. These, and many other strangely beneficial effects of aspirin, strongly suggest that it is acting on very basic biological processes, in a coherent way.

Estrogen (for example) activates the glycolytic pathway, while interfering with mitochondrial respiration. This resembles the aged or stressed metabolism, in which lactic acid is produced instead of carbon dioxide.

Aspirin activates both glycolysis and mitochondrial respiration, and this means that it shifts the mitochondria away from the oxidation of fats, toward the oxidation of glucose, resulting in the increased production of carbon dioxide. Its action on the glycolytic enzyme, GAPDH, is the opposite of estrogen's.

You should worry when you take aspirin

It causes internal bleeding and stomach ulcers.

Take the herb White Willow Bark instead -- which is what aspirin stole its synthetic version from then added some toxic chemicals to patent it.

Oh... I see...

What is your educational background? It must be pretty complete to allow you to make such an assessment.

I'll provide

specific examples if you like.

Number one reason not to trust the scientific community

is illustrated in that very article -- the sadistic, pointless and detrimental-to-humans usage of animals in experiments -- aka Vivisection.

I suggest all of you who are opposed to vaccines and wary of Big Pharma's toxic drugs start digging into the layers of lies surrounding vivisection and how humans are ultimately the real guinea pigs -- since no "results" of animal testing can ever be accurately extrapolated to the human physiology.

Animals neither get the same diseases that humans do nor do they react the same to synthetic drugs. Even a mice reacts differently than a rat, and much differently than a human.

You may ask yourself why so many drugs are pulled off the market after being approved by the FDA -- a large part of this is to be blamed on the misleading practice of vivisection. You may also ask yourself why animal testing is so secretive and done behind locked doors. If the public were actually to find out the truth, there would be an outcry of rage at the deception and cruelty involved.

"I abhor vivisection. It should at least be curbed. Better, it should be abolished. I know of no achievement through vivisection, no scientific discovery, that could not have been obtained without such barbarism and cruelty. The whole thing is evil." - Dr. Charles Mayo

Bottom line: After decades of testing on animals, can you name one true "cure" that has promoted health?

Yule Brenner - The King & I

The King of Siam trusted everything "scientific". Why shouldn't I?

Because you have been

Because you have been trained to do so from childhood.

No argument with that response

indoctrination is a many splendored (word?) thing.

Unify

After you watch Money masters

you will realize that a small group of men control the scientific community.

Then you can ignore them and you will feel much better......yay.

Try this.

1972 4 cylinder 4 speed chevy vega..................32 mpg hwy

2009 Chevy Corsica 4 cylinder 5 speed...........about 33 mpg hwy.

The car biz sold 555,000,000 cars in the last 37 years and we get ONE MPG.

Scientific community?

You gotta be kidding me.

Unify

But the vega

also required a quart of oil every 200 or so miles.

Good point, and look at this

Good point, and look at this versus a increase of 1,000,000 times in transistor counts in computer processors over the same time period.

People don't always trust the scientific community

In fact, they mostly distrust it, in a very unhealthy way.

What you talk about here is the fact that scientists are no more or less moral than the average person. there are some who will try to deceive for their own personal gain. That's why independent verification of discoveries is so important, and why it is important to follow the scientific method since that helps you make good decisions.

I think it is a credit to the scientific community that this miscreant was caught.

And how many

miscreants are never found out? You're making a good point, but the scientific community as it applies to medicine isn't set up to encourage researchers to produce pure unbiased discoveries based on scientific method.

Well yes and no

I don't see the problem in the medical community quite that way. I have quite a few friends that work in biochemistry, get NIH grants, etc. They do the best research they can, they are honest, and look at all the data. The problem is that the current trends are stuck in a paradigm designed around collectivism, and intended to make money for the medical industrial complex. I know what you mean when you say they are biased, but it is not exactly that. The directions they choose to go with their research are aimed, in their minds, as those that will help the most people, They do not consider the individual, nor do they always consider the big picture.

Its not their results that are biased as much as the research they choose to do in the first place.
