Sheriff Joe Is At It Again!
If every county had a Sheriff like Joe there wouldn't be many problems!
SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN!
You all remember Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona , who painted the jail cells pink and made the inmates wear pink prison garb. Well.........
SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN!
Oh, there's MUCH more to know about Sheriff Joe!
Maricopa County was spending approx. $18 million dollars a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors said okay.
The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who'd like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows.
The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million. Teresa and I adopted a Weimaraner from a Maricopa County shelter two years ago. He was neutered, and current on all shots, in great health, and even had a microchip inserted the day we got him. Cost us $78.
The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals.
I have long wondered when the rest of the country would take a look at the way he runs the jail system, and copy some of his ideas. He has a huge farm, donated to the county years ago, where inmates can work, and they grow most of their own fresh vegetables and food, doing all the work and harvesting by hand.
He has a pretty good sized hog farm, which provides meat and fertilizer. It fertilizes the Christmas tree nursery where prisoners work, and you can buy a living Christmas tree for $6 - $8 for the holidays, and plant it later. We have six trees in our yard from the Prison.
Yup, he was reelected last year with 83% of the vote.
Now he's in trouble with the ACLU again. He painted all his buses and vehicles with a mural that has a special hotline phone number painted on it, where you can call and report suspected illegal aliens. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement wasn't doing enough in his eyes, so he had 40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration laws, started up his hotline, and bought 4 new buses just for hauling folks back to the border. He's kind of a 'Git-R Dun' kind of Sheriff.
TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO:
HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER.
THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:
Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona ) who created the ' Tent City Jail':
He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.
He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights. Cut off all but 'G' movies.
He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.
Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.
He took away cable TV until he found out there was a Federal court order that required cable TV For jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again and only let in the Disney Channel and the Weather Channel.
When asked why the Weather Channel, he replied, "So they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.
He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value. When the inmates complained, he told them, 'This isn't the Ritz/Carlton......If you don't like it, don't come back.'
More On The Arizona Sheriff:
With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press Reports: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.
On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before.
Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their PINK SOCKS.
'It feels like we are in a furnace,' said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the tents for one year. 'It's inhumane.'
Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic. He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: 'It's 120 Degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your mouths!'
Way To Go, Sheriff!
Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers' money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves..

Did you say the3 deog was microchipped?
U R A FOOL!
How to eat an elephant, one bite at a time.
FOOL!
It was "even micro chipped"
Can we get sheriff JOE
as sheriff in DC?
He gets reelected because people want someone who is…
…tough on crime. The problem is that everything that the government doesn't approve of is a crime and all policy violations are crimes. People are clueless as to what is actually a law or mere color of law. To the brain dead the terms are the same. Sheriff Joe is no hero. Do away with victimless crimes and Sheriff Joe could be replaced by a wet sponge. Instead of trying to be the country's toughest sheriff, he should try being the best.
I live in Arizona and would NEVER vote for this jack-booted thug.

“Just look at us. Everything is backwards; everything is upside down. Doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, universities destroy knowledge, governments destroy freedom, the major media destroy information and religions destroy spirituality”
slave labor
"prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free just to be out of their cells"
Slave labor is cheap and it doesn't talk back, but that doesn't make it right. If government wants to save money on bloated programs, then get efficient or cut back.
I suppose these are non-violent offenders. Maybe marijuana posession and other "crimes" that don't infringe on others?
What's next ... importing prisoners (slave labor) from other countries to fix our road pot-holes? Sending the slave catcher (Sheriff) to catch slaves to provide cheap labor is anti-freedom and anti-liberty. Prisoners don't have free will, even if they will work for free to get out of lockdown.

I completely agree, this is
I completely agree, this is a very dangerous path to go down, setting precidence in an easily abused way.
so they saved 15million, if saving money is so important how abuot we abolish the drugwar, the middle east war, the occupation of 44 some odd countries around the world,, how about that?
instead of saving 15mil, we could save billions anually (which sadly, is a drop in the bucket compared to this new "trillion" government we seem to be inflicted with).

I'd pay to watch....
...Sheriff Mack swing a one-two hail mary right across Sheriff Joe's noggin and deck his lights out!!!!!!
: )
I'd be all for this IF...
Arpaio wasn't getting his labor from non-violent offenders, namely drug users.

Wow, thanks for the video.
Wow, thanks for the video. This guy seems like a fraud! There is no way in hell I'd vote for this guy. I assume Maripoca county is fairly conservative?
http://theconstitutionalists1.blogspot.com
Unfortunately,
they are still regarded criminals until We the People change the law.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iERLtsBIqDg
oh no!
My lord, now we will hear of sexual abuse with these animals. Sounds like a real PERK for a pedifile or rapist. They will kill each other for these jobs.
I live in Arizona and I
I live in Arizona and I think Sheriff Joe is a Nazi. If it wasn't for all the crappy unconstitutional laws that are on the books he would be out of a job. He would not have the means to stage his publicity. And millions of lives would be better off because they would not have gotten trapped into his slave camp system. His tent jails, though they saved the county money, are wrong because most of those people are in there for victimless crimes. So sad to see people fall for this crap.

Hey
Ira...the only thing unconstitutional would be to force the people of Maricopa County to pay for housing and food for these criminals through "unconstitutional" taxes! It's not a "slave camp" if you put the prisoners to work to provide for there own housing and food. By your reasoning that would make us all a part of "slave camps" because we work/labor to provide ourselves with a home, food, and clothing.
I do support Sheriff Joe because he listens and takes action the way the people - who voted for him - want, and he is probably the only public figure - besides Ron Paul of course - who does so. I do not support the jailing of people who are victims of certain drug enforcement laws, but until we tackle that issue separately, I still don't want to pay for their housing and food!

You didn't know? We are all
You didn't know? We are all slaves. Don't pay your taxes on your house and see who really owns it? Don't pay your income tax and see how they whip you, BOOOY! Don't pay a bogus traffic ticket and see what they do to your freedom to travel!
And I'll repeat, most people are in the tent city for victimless crimes. We lock people up for possession of weed and then let murderers and rapists out in a few years, only to repeat it again.
If we did not have these bogus laws, and the enforcement of them, we'd not have a prision population larger than China's or Stalins at their worst.
You Judge A Tree By It's Fruit, NOT its Flower
I agree
with everything you just said, but until WE are able to change these laws that commit these individuals to jail time, they are still in jail.
And the point is, I do not want to pay for their time in prison.

unfortunatly there are far
unfortunatly there are far too many battles to fight, which do we focus on?
it seems that auditing the fed is the most widely "acceptable" fight right now.
FOCUS everyone, FOCUS!

“One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.” Plato
I agree
but I think all of our battles are "acceptable". Auditing the Fed is the more important one at the moment.

So if the Gulags and Nazi
So if the Gulags and Nazi concentration camps hadn't killed people, you'd be ok with that part of history?
They did provide the people with food and shelter and put them to work. And the laws of the country where this happened made it legal for it to happen.
African slaves in the US had housing and food, again was legal under the current system. But doesn't make it proper.
What!!
The Jewish people were rounded up like cattle - because of their race/religion - to be starved and killed. Africans were rounded up and shipped to be "slaves" because of their race, and I do not agree with your comparison in either situation to what Sheriff Joe is doing.
Do you think it is a crime to murder, rape, or steal another person's property? Do you think we should change those laws? Do you think WE - you and I - should pay for their room and baord, food, and clothing after they commit those crimes?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iERLtsBIqDg
Most of the people in there
Most of the people in there are there for victimless crimes. It's a publicity stunt and most sheeple fall for it!
You Judge A Tree By It's Fruit, NOT its Flower
...
Forget about the "victim-less" crimes because we all agree that these laws need to be changed.
There are still those prisoners who committed murder, rape, and theft. Do you want to pay for these prisoners' room and board, food, clothing, and cable tv?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iERLtsBIqDg
Yes I do want to pay
Regardless of what someone did. Society has no right to use them as slaves. BTW, They will probably use prisoners somewhere to test the new swine flu vaccine - is this OK with you to ?
As Ira Freeman so eloquetly stated...
"We are all slaves. Don't pay your taxes on your house and see who really owns it? Don't pay your income tax and see how they whip you, BOOOY! Don't pay a bogus traffic ticket and see what they do to your freedom to travel!"
It is not ok with me if they use prisoners to test any vaccine. That will be dealt with if that time comes.

Get rid of all the
Get rid of all the unconstitutional laws, stop the enforcement of bad laws, and you will see a prision population about a tenth its current size. And yes, I would pay to keep murderers, thieves and rapists locked up. I would make them grow their own food, and make their own clothes too. TEEVEE, NO! I'd give them internet access so they could improve their lives while behind bars. (they'd pay for it though) Let's not forget that there are innocent people locked up for crimes they did not committ.
Another side to the argument about making them perform slave labor is the jobs they take over usually are stolen from the private sector. South Dakota has an inmate manufactured housing program and guess who suffers, the private industry that makes manufactured homes. How can you comete against a man that makes less than a buck an hour? Why should I "Pay" to kill jobs in the private sector?
You Judge A Tree By It's Fruit, NOT its Flower
Paying
for there time in prison is where we disagree, because if I were the victim, I would of already paid the price for their crime. In the case of Maricopa County, these were government jobs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iERLtsBIqDg
Yes, those were Maricopa
Yes, those were Maricopa County government jobs, which shouldn't be there anyway. This is not the way to eliminate government jobs.
You Judge A Tree By It's Fruit, NOT its Flower
If you get thrown in jail and have to pay for the privilege....
.....of staying there, you are a slave. You don't have a job, so they extort the money from your family. Or you are given a job that does not pay enough to cover what you are being charged to stay. The people have an option of using a different system, they don't have to either pay taxes or use slavery. There are alternatives.
They are NOT
slaves when they committed a C-R-I-M-E !!!
Forget about the "victim-less" crimes - we agree that people should not be in prison for these crimes - what "system" should we use for people who commit murder, rape, or theft of another person's property? What options are there that won't burden our families with more taxes?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iERLtsBIqDg
You are ignoring the fact
You are ignoring the fact that taxes would be less because there would be less people in prision.
You Judge A Tree By It's Fruit, NOT its Flower
How is this a fact?
What makes you sure that the government(s) will lower taxes because there are less people prison?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iERLtsBIqDg
You got me. Taxes never go
You got me. Taxes never go down. I guess slave labor is good after all!
