Health Care

Why doesn't my local hospital and doctors get together and offer my community a health care plan? All of the money that we send out of our community to insurance companies would stay in the community. It would create local jobs and less red tape. We would need a system to pay for care outside of the community but once again this is done locally.
I would prefer that it was a private plan not run by local government. But if we went the government route we could charge a sales tax so that all of the illegals would pay their fare share.
Please add your thoughts.

Group Health of Seattle
Check out Group Health of Seattle. As far as I know, they have a similar setup to what you explained.
While I do not know alot of the workings of their medical plans, I do know they operate just like any other HMO when it comes to care. They must stay afloat with the behemoth HMOs and Medicare out their driving up their costs.
I do agree that Group Health is a seemingly better system than the soon-to-be-broke Medicare and the behemoth HMOs,however. Local emphasis on care is a plus in my book.
Take care,
Chris
Think for yourself. Question authority.
kevin:The answer is very simple. We decided to self-insure with..
over 400 employees at a community health center about 10 years ago. It did save money until it went bankrupt due 1% of the people insured...4 people. One was a dialysis patient, another needed several surgeries, a third required several involved procedures and prolonged hospital stays, and the last was an employee for all of one week and during that time had a lot of procedures done, then quit.
The rest of us were healthy, but the entire system went bankrupt in 2 years time.
It is too risky for offer a community plan.
local health care plan
But would those few patients be offset by a larger group. My county has 7700 residents. Or are we always going to be dealing with the 1%? And if that's the case how do the insurance companies turn a profit? Do they just deny care? That would be something that would be harder to do locally.
I have started to call family and friends. I am asking them to donate $25 for my Christmas gift. If we can all do this we will raise a bunch more money.
where is the money
My guess , you can't get blood from a turnnip.
