The following is a petition calling for a commitment to Fed independence:

Open Letter to Congress and the Executive Branch

Amidst the debate over systemic regulation, the independence of U.S. monetary policy is at risk. We urge Congress and the Executive Branch to reaffirm their support for and defend the independence of the Federal Reserve System as a foundation of U.S. economic stability. There are three specific risks that must be contained.

First, central bank independence has been shown to be essential for controlling inflation. Sooner or later, the Fed will have to scale back its current unprecedented monetary accommodation. When the Federal Reserve judges it time to begin tightening monetary conditions, it must be allowed to do so without interference. Second, lender of last resort decisions should not be politicized.

Well I guess

Here's 175 people who probably each got a chunk of the missing 8 trillion dollars they printed up recently.

Hell, if that's the case,

Hell, if that's the case, add my name to the list! Ill gladly take a couple million for putting my name on a phony list!

Economists Must be Trusted

Me thinks it prudent to accept the judgement of 175 Keynesians and Monetarists who tell me to trust the fed reserve counterfeiting organization. These economists with their regression equations are certainly much wiser and learned than a serf such as myself. Why, they couldn't possibly have a pro-statist bias due to either a) working for a government funded academic institution, b) working for a government agency outright, or c) had their life's 'research' funded by a government grant.

That's right. And don't forget, they love us too.

We're lucky to have such a nice fed with so many good friends. Is 175 more than 267? I went to public school, I'm not sure.

lol

Piece be with you

Comment I left on the WSJ

Wow, where am I supposed to begin?? Can a single person take this list seriously, when we have these quack “economists” signing the petition? Let me list off a few of the organizations some of these buffoons represent, and then I may change the mind of the few people that look at this and even begin to take it a little bit seriously. Of the above organizations, I see Wells Fargo, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan Chase, JP Morgan, and the Federal Reserve Bank of SF to name a few. Of course people from these organizations would want to keep the Federal Reserve’s activities secret. These are some of the banks and financial institutions that are in collusion with the Fed! How can anyone take a list of people who want to keep the Federal Reserve’s activities secret seriously, when it is being represented by the organizations that benefit from the Fed’s secrecy??

Open Letter in response to those 175 Dooshbags

Open Letter to Congress and the Executive Branch

Amidst the debate over systemic regulation, 175 dooshbags have asserted that the independence of U.S. monetary policy is at risk. We urge Congress and the Executive Branch to ignore them and at the very least bother to take a moment to gather information about the actions of of the Federal Reserve System so that they have a chance in hell of making logical and reasoned decisions about what, if anything, can be done to improve our current regulatory framework. Congress created the Federal Reserve, and as such it is accountable for its actions. It only makes sense that our representatives should, at the very least, acquaint themselves with how it functions and what it has been doing.

There are three specific issues that must be examined.

First, the central bank has been charged with controlling inflation. As evidenced by the past century it has failed to do so. The worth of the dollar has decreased such that one dollar is only worth 4 cents in terms of the value of the US currency when the Federal Reserve was created.

Second, it is ridiculous to think that lender of last resort decisions are not politicized. In order to prevent abuse of the system, congress as the duly elected representation of the people of the United States, needs to be able to monitor the actions its actions.

Finally, should problems be identified in the Federal Reserve, be they structural or personnel related, congress should work quickly to rectify them as such deficiencies could worry investors and creditors-- thus raising inflation expectations and borrowing costs and dimming prospects for recovery.

The democratic legitimacy of the Federal Reserve System is well established by its legal mandate and by the existing appointments process. Frequent communication with the public and testimony before Congress helps ensure Fed accountability, but a full audit is essential if we are to be sure that the system is working properly.

Before the Federal Reserve has its charter altered in any way congress should gather as much information about the organization as possible so that when decision are made, we can be confident that they are based on facts, and not wistful thinking and empty conjecture.

who do the clowns work for

Just the thought of auditing the FED has a nice polarizing effect, although I fear the FEDs masters are psychotic and deranged enough to kill many to protect their magik piggy bank.

woo hoo!

Not psychotic

It is almost as fun as posting on the DP. They do not ask for email or any soul stealing info - just post your comments on the link above in this post.

I think

or to look at it in another way

Amidst the debate over systemic regulation, the independence of the foxes and the hen house is at risk. We urge The farmers to reaffirm their support for and defend the independence of the foxes as a foundation of chicken stability. There are three specific risks that must be contained.

First, foxes have been shown to be essential for controlling out of town foxes from taking the hens. Sooner or later, the Foxes will have to scale back the chickens to their accommodation. When the Foxes judge it time to begin tightening the chicken supply, they must be allowed to do so without interference. Second, fox of last resort decisions should not be politicized.

Finally, calls to alter the structure or personnel selection of the Foxes could backfire by raising demand for the hens dimming prospects for more hens to be hatched. The democratic legitimacy of the Foxes is well established by its natural mandate and by the existing natural food chain process. Frequent communication with the farmers and testimony before the other farm animals ensure Fox accountability.

If the Foxes are given new responsibilities and restrictions every effort must be made to avoid compromising their ability to eat er manage hen policy as they see fit.

175? hahahhahahhahahhaaahaa 175!

Someone should start a thread for everyone to sign their sig to. When several thousand sign it it should be printed by the starter of the post and mailed to the same. I wonder if this would send the message? Id pay for the stamp!

To David Weasel - The Fed is

To David Weasel - The Fed is NOT INDEPENDENT! They are presently connected to the Treasury at the hip! What in the world are you talking about? The taxpayers pay the tab and also suffer from quantitative easing ill affects through inflation. We demand to know what our money is being used for. Is it being shared with foreign banks for example. hum? This petition shows that "we the people" have the Fed scared to death!

Lots of comments are roasting them.

Add yours to the fun.

That petition is hilarious! It's so sad anyone would take it seriously enough to sign it.

It is

This for ex: "First, central bank independence has been shown to be essential for controlling inflation."
Central banks controlling inflation? Har, har har. Central banks were set up to inflate (ie. lender of last resort)!

Where is our petition???

Oh wait, it's the list of cosponsors that keeps increasing due to our efforts on contacting and educating Congress!

Duh...

I'm Michael Adler and I went to "Columiba University"! *__*

This is a pretty retarded petition. Anybody can post, and say whatever corp, school, business they'd like to be affiliated with. It doesn't even ask for credentials... laughable.

If I had more time, I'd name-check all of these people to see if they even existed.

True, it is a retarded petition

Made by some retarded propagandists

LOL, I thought you meant real clowns

I was imagining people in clown suits. :D

Most Americans with any brains cells left will want the Federal Reserve to be transparent, once they realize it is a private bank, or cartel, I guess they refer to it as. We are waking up to this fact. We've been asleep since 1913.

The only people that will want to continue to keep it all secret is THEM. So, yes, I agree, somebody is paying somebody to say this.
