Gold backed scrip

Is it legal for states to create gold-backed scrip for use within the state? I'm fearful of hyper-inflation and dollar devaluation and am curious if states are legally permitted to print a gold-backed scrip to be used within their state borders. Would this violate existing laws?
Question: If you could move to a state which provided a gold-backed scrip, which would insure that if the dollar become worthless, you would be able to purchase food and fuel with a local currency, would you move to this state?

They'd have to show me the gold.
Hypothetically, sure I'd move there. But what state do you think is going to do such a thing? We'd have to completely take over its political leadership and move toward that plan. Currently, there's no states even remotely close to being willing to reject the gov teet to form its own currency.
Pipe dreams are good to have though.

Delaware Returns to Gold Standard
Let's target Delaware as the state we return to "local sound currency". A very small state, with existing vault capacity for gold storage. I need first to determine if it's legal to produce gold scrip within a state's borders. Any suggestions on who I can ask this question. Then if it is a legal pipe dream we might explore the how.
If our founding fathers could defeat the greatest empire, we should be able to re-conquer one small state.
