A True Hero Dies- No 24/7 Coverage, Barely a Word!

So, I ran across this story over at newsvine.com. I thought it was worth sharing. As the media still covers Michael Jackson's death, the people we should be recognizing never get mentioned.

A True Hero Dies- No 24/7 Coverage, Barely a Word!

- - - - -

We have been through, and are still enduring 24/7 coverage of one persons death, while this man's passing has been ignored by the media.

Ed Freeman

You're a 19-year-old kid. You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley , 11-14-1965, LZ X-ray, Vietnam . Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in.

You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you're not getting out.. Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.

Then, over the machine gun noise, you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter and you look up to see an unarmed Huey, but it doesn't seem real because no Medi-Vac markings are on it.

Ed Freeman is coming for you. He's not Medi-Vac, so it's not his job, but he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire, after the Medi-Vacs were ordered not to come.

He's coming anyway.

And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire as they load 2 or 3 of you on board.

Then he flies you up and out, through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses.

And he kept coming back, 13 more times, and took about 30 of you and your buddies out, who would never have gotten out.

Medal of Honor Recipient Ed Freeman died on Wednesday, June 25th, 2009, at the age of 80, in Boise , ID. May God rest his soul. Since the media didn't give him the coverage he deserves, I have done my best here.

THANKS AGAIN, ED, FOR WHAT YOU DID FOR OUR COUNTRY. RIP

I went with the information I rec'vd from a friend. Below is a link that appears to be more accurate concerning the service, etc..of this great man. The date of death is August, 2008 according to the link. The facts are not different enough to change anything here that would make the article less important. Sorry for any misinformation or misunderstanding.. maddad.

I want to thank Nofluer for bringing the error to my attention in his comment. I will research better next time.

McCain

Is it true McCain has never taken the time to help out families of MIA/POW...I saw a video where he'd agreed to talk to some of the families then just got up and walked out on them ?

Just one last kick in the nuts, then a final deathblow

Who Cares about Ed Freeman, he was a killer

Ed Freeman didn't fly a medivac. He flew a Huey, with guns. He flew men into and out of combat. He was a killer. That's what men in combat are, killers...

Now this particular killer, Ed Freeman, also went out of his way and saved some lives, while risking his in the process. It takes a special person to do that, it also takes a special person to pull the trigger and cut down hoards of indigineous peoples who have never committed an act of aggression against that person, his family, or his "country." That type of special person is brainwashed slave. The Truth shall make you Free!

MJ made millions feel good with his music and dance. Although provocative and clown-like at times. Don't forget how he used his art to speak out against violence, racism, and for peace. He raised millions for AIDs victims. He gave MILLIONs of his own earnings to charity, he never agressed against any one (bs lawsuits aside, he was aquited by a jury of 12). Most importantly, he didn't kill any one, Ed Freeman did.

The market has spoken loud and clear. If more people lived such a creative, giving, and loving life the world really would be a "better place for you and for." Men like Ed Freeman, who participate in violence, "For Country." Sure as shit didn't and to this day do not do so for me. Even though the brainwashed sheep keep saying folks like him are doing it for my freedom, how wonderful of them to speak for every one! These 'feedom ain't free' types who are such idiotic slaves they can't even acknowledge the chains they help lock on people they claim be keeping free by advocating violence. I say good riddens to another killer, and mourn the loss of a REAL HERO Michael Jackson.

Sorry if the market, and reality interferes with some one's sick ideology and worship of violent men in costumes marching into combat to slay en mass....

Im against all wars.. however

What you said was pretty disrespectful. I understand that America hasnt faught a war of neccessity since the revolutionary war and 1812...and even those i say were neccessary with a grain of salt. I know this war in iraq and afgan are complete bullshit... no middle eastern muslim ever did a thing to me... and I dont even count 9-11 because we all know it was an inside job. Having said this... i plan on deploying to afgan within the next 12 months or so. I was active duty navy corpsman.. now ima reservist. There are two aspects to being a navy corpsman 1) we provide medical support to all sailors and marines..when they are sick, when they hurt themselves.. even when they drink too much the night before a 5am 6 mile run and need an IV started in my barracks room at 2am to rehydrate them. Thats my job. 2) The other aspect of being a navy corpsman is... keeping as many men on as many guns for as long as possible and knowing that the best medicine when providing care under fire is firepower superiority and firing down range. When your in the suck... politics is useless. Its about making it home with your manhood intact. If i kill some poor arab... if i save a marines life.. i know im not doing it for my country but for global corporations to make profit. But in my heart I know who I am doing it for... its for that poor kid from bumfuck nowhere who had dreams of serving his country.. he is my responcibility. I save lives for a living.

It looks like he was apparently actively working AGAINST them.

"John McCain...worked very hard to hide from the public stunning information about American prisoners in Vietnam who, unlike him, didn't return home. Throughout his Senate career, McCain has quietly sponsored and pushed into federal law a set of prohibitions that keep the most revealing information about these men buried as classified documents."

Sorry Folks

Old news, this bit has been circulating "the internets" for over a year. Died 2008. Cant understand why this is on the DP anyway. Lots of war heros die all the time, but just because a movie was made about the battle of the Ia Drang valley, everyone seems to think this should be MSM worthy.

BTW: Being a vet myself, I praise his actions, but everyone else in this post is all getting "godly" and praising someone that they would not have even known about had this internet post never been circulated. The internet post would not have been circulated had a movie not been made based on a book that was written by LTCOL Hal Moore.

Point: If you are going to get all emotional about this, (1) First research what you read first. The media DID not ignore Freeman over Micheal Jackson. Freeman died over a year ago. (2) A heck of a lot more postings about war heroes that have died, that never made the "big-screen", should be on the DP.

Glad Freeman's story was posted here, because I missed it.

Agreed that it would be nice to see more hero postings here. Doesn't have to be limited to war heroes, though.

Bump and Dugg for a hero

Thanks for sharing this story.

P.S. Maybe adam1mc's Digg link from below could be put in the OP so it doesn't get buried in comments. Thanks

So...

...besides the obvious heroism of Mr. Freeman, is it the author's contention that the "police action" in Vietnam was a good and noble cause, necessary for the defense of American freedom, and should, therefore, be honored?

Al Capone's men may well have had their heroic moments, but their actions were hardly honorable. Shall we fawn at their feet too?

It is tragic that we allow our government to conduct such obviously flawed foreign policy, and even sadder still when we drape the flag around the corpses of the fallen as if to somehow cleanse us of our sins.

The needless deaths of millions are are on our hands...where do we go from here?

It's good that you are looking at the big picture.

I don't see Freeman; however, as part of the larger philosophical picture.
During this time, many Americans had no choice about going to Vietnam (unless they wanted to sit in jail). Freeman's story is what is good about human nature. Not the government. His is a story more about the good Samaritan. He saw men (humans, his countrymen) suffering and helpless and he did what he could do to help them. That is all that this is about. Not everything in the world has to be bad......He isn't just like many people who would rather walk pass a hurt, suffering human 'cause it is not his business.

Word.

Word.

Died in 2008

Apparently Ed Freeman died on August 20, 2008 due to complications from Parkinson's disease. He was buried in the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise.

AHHH

what did Ed do for our country that we are thanking him for?

I doubt that Ed was thinking much about the country at the time

He dodged bullets to help soldiers, wounded and dying soldiers get to safety at the risk of loosing his own life. He didn't have to do it and in fact, aircraft were ordered away from the LZ, but, sometimes there is that one special person who won't stand by and let others die.....I believe that is why he is being honored today. Just a great human being..

Sorry for my ignorance, but who or what is 'Michael Jackson'?

Sorry, but I am enjoying this thread about this hero from my era and place, VN, knowing others also, some who returned and some not... but who is this MJ, or Michael Jackson fellow? The name jumped into the blog and some are praising him apparently, and I am wondering what unit he was with, or if he also earned the CMOH?

The CMH (Congressional Medal of Honor)

This man is truly a hero. To return to the aid of your brothers in arms is a testament to the bonds between soldiers.
The criterion that must be satisfied for someone to win the CMH are significant. In addition to the great risk to personal safety, the act is condered so risky that nobody would find fault if the person chose a less heroic path. This is the significant difference between the CMH and other medals of valor.

May God bless you and keep you brother Freeman.

I will live every day trying to worthy of the freedom people like Ed sacrifice to protect.

Another hero forgotten.

It's so sad. Thanks for the post.
