I'm doing the same in my city. It's a small population compared to some, but I fully intend to attend the next Board of Supervisors meeting loaded for bear.

In agricultural areas, you might have competion, but in cities and towns, quite often you can be appointed or run unopposed.

It looks good on the bio when you run for city council.

It really does work well for huge water systems like "city" water, there's not a replacement that I know of.

fluoride is uneccary however, research a lot, prepare "speaking points" practice what your going to say a head of time and try to guess what the "retorts" will be, if you come prepared, calm and inteligent sounding you might change a few peoples minds, and thats all we cand do....

We had a guy in my area call up the local am talk radio station and speak up about fluoride. While I commend the guy for his effort, it was a classic case of what not to do. This fellow sounded very nervous and started right in on calling it toxic waste. Unfortunately, the host, who otherwise might have entertained a more measured and calm approach to someone questioning the validity of adding sodium fluoride to our water supply, cut the guy off and made a joke about the "fluoride people". If you want to pursue this topic, you might at least start off with mentioning the use of a certain mystery chemical on concentration camp prisoners in WWII to keep them docile and then tell them what it is. Find some relevant data on cavities in children in communities that do not use sodium fluoride. It's out there. There is also information out there regarding the damage caused by overconsumption of Sodium Fluoride and pictures of teeth permanently damaged by it. Just a few ideas for you in an effort to help you develop a strategy. You can say a lot in three minutes without even hurrying.

present a policy propososal "I recommend that you do not spend the x amount of our tax dollars on flouridatiom in the next budget"

Be brief, don't ramble, be sober and professional in your presentation.

Speak with. council member before hand get one on hour side. offer him/her some friendly questions to ask you. have your response ready.

be respectful. don't be nervous or hostile there is no reason to be either. You are just a citizen doing your job by participating.

declared July "Oregon National Guard" month. I wrote the mayor a letter stating that it is unconsitutional to send our Guard for foreign deployments along with a pocket constitution. His response-zero, zilch, nada.

much of our concern is how we will "look" when talking to these folks.

We worry about what "people will think of us."

First of all what you are doing is courageous and this is why......

The Water Authority is separate from the council. I would go to them, and they have monthly meetings too. These people are appointed to office from the councils.

I would go to council over concern over consolidating water sheds and giving up zoning control over water to a larger government conrol. He who controls the water controls the property. There was a thread about that a few weeks ago.

Don't get emotional. Provide LOTS of documentation and give everyone in the room a copy. Also leave a copy for the public at city hall, put that one in a nice binder so they have no excuse not to leave it out for reading.
Make sure you are on the agenda, don't just show up and do it.
Call your presentation "Suggestions for Green Initiatives". In fact, you could frame 99% of your presentation in "Going Green".

Don't take anything they say personal, and listen.
Point them to info: a website, movie, give them a slim jim or dvd, and ask if you may call them back, as you respect their opinion. Call them back within 24 hours.

I really mean that..I brought up the idea about showing local government how corrupt state and federal government are..OMG..I think the people are still laughing at me.

Freedom is another way to God...A corrupt government is a straight way to hell.

A person could do the same thing with automobiles.
People die from accidents, and get severe permanent injuries. Combustion engines cause large amounts of pollutions, an example is acid rain. Fuel additives like ethanol affect food prices, MTBE leech into the water supply.
The list goes on and on and on.
A person could try to outlaw the internet because of drug abuse or sex trafficking.

In the end the benefit out ways the cost.
You may get cancer at 80 from chlorine but you are not dieing of dehydration at 2.

Give out DVD's. People are so indoctrinated by the TEEVEE that I think this is the best way to educate people today. There are a lot of great documentarys on these subjects.

with our county water manager. Bear in mind, I'm not some radical-looking, rainbow-haired weird person... I'm a gray-haired 52 year old, business owner and grandfather who's lived in the community for 30 years.

The answer I received from the water manager was that their "system" was operating perfectly within federal guidelines... beyond that, it was a pure "dial-tone" moment. He heard nothing I said and looked at me like "you're one of those people, aren't you". Typical government drone.

Hitting newbies with very hard info has a tendency to overwhelm them where they possibly distance themselves from the source. So topic choice is important to start with. People care about money, taxes, and jobs. Hammer home HR1207, its content has had some info on the MSM. Teach about the loss of purchasing power due to the value of the dollar being only worth $.04, printing money, inflation, hard asset backing ...

Then what is the positive affect for the people for returning to honest money. Basically, give your platform as if you were going to run for office, or your local committeeman. That is the objective, take over government positions.
