California Constitutional Convention to Increase Taxes

A bunch of politicians have decided to launch an effort to strip away protections the California Constitution still upholds. We've been looking into the speakers and what their agenda would be, so we could develop a counter effort, and it comes down to the State's desire to remove constitutional restrictions to raise taxes and to take more money from local government. Their agenda is outlined on a page their site, repaircalifornia.org, linked to:

"This should enable reform in the most vital and interconnected areas. These are: reducing the two-thirds requirement for budgets and taxes; mandating two-year as opposed to annual budgets; giving local governments more access to local revenues; creating less partisan districts and primary elections; disciplining the process of direct democracy with new rules about signature collection; and introducing a “sunset” commission, as Texas has, that would gradually retire overlapping jurisdictions and offices to achieve something more manageable."

My interpretation of this is that the State believes the skids are not adequately greased, and the tax money to be doled out to special interests, money-grubbing politicians and power-seeking career bureaucrats is not sufficiently forthcoming. What's the problem? The State believes it's those stupid voters who don't want to be taxed and spent to death, and those few selected pieces of the constitution that have allowed them to resist at all.

We don't expect to be able to change the goals of these politicians, because the people conducting the meeting already know what they want. They don't care what you want. However, they do need to quietly orchestrate these little town hall meetings around the state, in order to create the appearance that their agenda was actually somehow arrived at with the input of the Citizens of California.

Let your voices be heard, protect the little income your government still allows you to keep, hope to see you there.
