Income-Based Repayment (IBR) for Student Loan Borrowers

0 votes

What do Libertarians think about the new government program, Income-Based Repayment (IBR), for low income people with student loan debt? As a libertarian and someone who supported Ron Paul in the primaries, I think it is terrific.

Basically, IBR is a government funded program through the Dept. of Education that works with low income student loan borrowers in helping them eliminate their debt within 25 years, in addition to keeping their payments affordable and manageable. Furthermore, public service workers can have their debt forgiven in as early as ten years. It is like a dream come true to me, since I have $80,000+ in student loan debt and I plan on being a high school teacher.

More info on IBR and a short video can be found at this link: http://www.ibrinfo.org/

Just more government spending...

You must have chosen to go to a very expensive school. When my kids went to school, I told them I would pay their room and board at any school but that they would have to pay all their tuition. They worked their tails off at state universities and graduated not owing any money. As a taxpayer, I am not enthused in this give away plan. I would rather shut down the federal Department of Education. What's libertarian about this program? If I were in your position, I would probably be more enthused about the program.

Is this part of the Obama Give Act?

sounds like it.

Very interesting. I will

Very interesting. I will have to do some more research on this when I have some time. I am workin on paying off my loans as well.
