Very interesting questions arise when discussing economic depressions and deflation since there has been a conditioned response that deflation is an inherent characteristic of economic depressions. The primary source of this conditioning is the commonly accepted “fact” that The Great Depression was characterized by widespread and deep deflation. The question is whether or not it is actually a characteristic of a depression or an anomaly brought about by interventionist policies?

In the Kentucky Resolution, Thomas Jefferson declared: “This Commonwealth is determined to submit to no undelegated and consequently unlimited power, in no man, or body of men on earth, even the President, whose suspicions may be the evidence, his orders the sentence, his officers the executioner and his breast the sole record of the transaction.

It is, at times, difficult to wade through all the subtle changes that have occurred in this country, particularly the truly drastic changes that took place during the 20th Century. The problem is that there is simply not much information about these subtle, but drastic and transformative changes that were implemented in our government and country but, there are hints.

What is free market capitalism? It is certainly nothing like what we witness today which resembles more of an official corporatism than actual capitalism. The first principle of capitalism is the Right of Private Property; it is the foundation, in fact of all other Rights, for without it the individual is at the mercy of superior power.
