A good place to start ...

A good place to start would be The Permaculture Research Institute of Australia which Geoff Lawton heads up. They should be able to provide you with information about the best permaculture projects as well as the best teachers closest to where you are going. If you are fortunate enough to connect with a mature permaculture system in India, they may be able to provide you with plants or seedlings for your own home project along with valuable information for that climate.

You could also try posting questions on their discussion forums. From the look of the headings it might be exactly what you are looking for.
