Yeah Joel is an inspiration. I also volunteered in Nicaragua last winter and met a guy named Rick Ervin he is working in Nicaragua at a Ranch/Learning Center. The purpose is to teach the rural poor how to raise crops and produce animal protein to meet their families' needs. Small groups of families are brought from cooperating villages to the teaching/research farm, given hands-on training in the production of small domestic animals (chickens, rabbits, goats), taught the basics of soil restoration and reforestation, and the production of feed and food crops on small plots of land. Rancho Ebenezer emphasizes intensive farming practices, enabling the student farmers to produce maximum yields of food and feed from small plots of land.
