Too many cops with nothing to do

On a Saturday morning in rural Illinois, a hundred miles from home, a State Trooper pulled me over for "following too close." There wasn't another car within a hundred yards! But it put me on notice that I'd better play ball or I'd get a ticket from which I couldn't defend myself. We proceded to play 20 questions, right down to who I worked for and what I did for them. In 38 years of driving, I'd never been pulled over or ticketed for anything, so I had no idea what was happening. Thinking on it later I realized:
1. Driver: bearded
2. Car: New rental
3. Place: I70, headed east
4. Put it together: possible drug runner.

He was absolutely fishing.

He let me go, no warning, no ticket.
