Our coins are nearly worthless

Just check out these base metal calculators and see that the melt value of the coins in circulation are nearly worthless even with the recent surge in precious metals. Then remind yourself that paper money is worth even less than the melt value of these coins, and the coins, in theory, "back up" the paper money.

The only coins that are actually worth more than their set value are nickels and pre-1982 pennies. Every other coin is nearly worthless based on its metal composition compared to face value.
