"Non-deployed" could also mean they died in hospital care on a US base in Germany or Virginia, etc...

These statistics are so screwed up. The killed in combat numbers given out by the pentagon/media are the troops that actually die on the battlefield. Deployed could also mean those who die in the Combat Army Support Hospital on in transit to other medical facilities. I saw numbers somewhere saying actual combat fatalities is somewhere around 80,000.
