My husband recently ruined this phrase for me by answering with "yeah, but who wants flies."
I have been appealing to the broadcasters and journalists' sense of ego and competition by suggesting they get off the 'hamster wheel of spin' and report some real analysis of the news, such as coverage of all candidates and some kind of exposure regarding the idea of two liberal dems being hailed as the pub frontrunners.
Everybody's got an ego, and the news is highly competitive. Encourage them to break away from the pack, to be the first in line to offer true analysis of politics instead of just reading press releases.
Yawn. You're boring, I tell them.... Right now there is no such thing as 'breaking news'. That's gotta hurt....
