Jon Stewart is far from a libertarian. I would put him closer to the social democratic sphere. He believes the state needs to circumvent and make choices for the people in some situations. He doesn’t think things would get done if we were in a purely free market. He has mentioned in interviews, how he likes roads and he likes the things taxes give us. I have seen this argument from many liberals. If you don’t like taxes than you shouldn’t use any of the services our taxes provide. Like police, fire, roads, air traffic controllers, etc..
He is foremost a comedian and making fun of whatever he thinks people will find funny is his primary goal. Social commentary falls a far second to his primary goal of making people laugh.
