Comment: they are the same company

(See in situ)

they are the same company

They are both owned by the Tribune Co. LA Times has belonged to Tribune Co. since 2000 when their parent company Times Mirror Company merged with Tribune Co. in an $8.3 billion deal (Times Mirror also brought Newsday, Hartford Courant, and The Baltimore Sun in with the deal).

They also own...

  • Burbank Leader, Burbank, California
  • Daily Pilot, Costa Mesa and Newport Beach, California
  • Glendale News-Press, Glendale, California
  • Huntington Beach Independent, Huntington Beach, California
  • Valley Sun, La Cañada Flintridge, California
  • Costline Pilot, Laguna Beach, California
  • Pasadena Sun, Pasadena, California
  • Hartford Courant, Hartford, Connecticut
  • South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Fort Lauderdale, Florida
  • Orlando Sentinel, Orlando, Florida
  • Baltimore Sun, Baltimore, Maryland
  • The Morning Call, Allentown, Pennsylvania
  • Daily Press, Newport News, Virginia

Which, to be honest, I don't have a huge problem with, because most of those newspapers were going broke and wouldn't exist if Tribune Co. hadn't bought them up. Its called economies of scale. =oP
