I've had good luck with WD (Western Digital) SATA drives

The 1TB models fit my budget/needs.

I'd put them in an external enclosure, perhaps something like this:

If you have a bigger budget, you can set up your additional drives in a RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) that can be configured to allow failing disks to be replaced with little or no data loss.
