Hearst,

being a newspaper magnate, owned his own forests to make pulp for his newspapers. Hemp makes great pulp too, and many generations of hemp plants grow within the 30 year maturation of a tree. Hemp seeds make great oil which can be used in eco-friendly paints, varnishes, and could replace virtually all petroleum-based products. There are a million reasons why big business wants to keep hemp illegal.
