Why is he still racking up charges when there is no way he will get anywhere? That alone is a reason for not supporting him. How dumb can he be?

Not so dumb. Gingrich can legally take years and years to pay off his campaign debt. His campaign can even declare bankruptcy if it likes.
At the same time, every book and video he sells while on the campaign trail go straight into his pocket. When Gingrich decided to run, he never did so with the hope of winning. He was only using the republican presidential nomination process as a glorified book tour.
Rights are like muscles; you must exercise them to keep them fit, or they will atrophy and die.
