I was trying to make a joke about the author's thought process. Or lack thereof. Humor isn't my strong suit.

For the author, when all the woes of the world are the fault of the rich, any graph or data set can be molded to that narrative. They don't need to ask questions like 'why does this line diverge so prominently at this one year?' or 'why did the malinvestment of the housing boom occur primarily in one sector the economy?'

When your sole enemy is evil rich people, you cannot answer these fundamental questions, and that is why they aren't asked.
