Kesey had another great novel, after Cuckoo's Nest

Sometimes a Great Notion.

You actually can see the film of it still, I think, on YouTube.

I won't link here because it is copyrighted.

Many literature critics and Kesey himself considered the latter book his best---for what it's worth (and I'm neither critic nor great novelist) Sometimes is the best novel I ever read, and I loved Cuckoo's Nest.

Paul Newman bought rights and made his first film as Director (starring in it too, along with Henry Fonda, Lee Remick, Michael Sarrazin and Richard Jaeckel).

It's a story about a family against a whole town...a family of rugged individuals against a union. It was a great film and a better book.

Highly recommended read for anyone who likes stories about individualism.

What Cuckooo's Nest said about individuals trapped in the nuthouses Sometimes A Great Notion said about liberty in the woods of Oregon.
