You have to consider....
...what the blowback would be from trying to abstain on the 1st ballot. If we did this, and then nominated Paul on the 2nd ballot, can you imagine what the MSM would say? They'd be screaming at the masses non-stop for months on end about how Ron Paul and his radicals hijacked the democratic process. We might win the nomination through abstention on the 1st ballot, but we could very well lose the battle for hearts and minds. I think the campaign understands this, hence the comments recently about accepting the rules on bound delegates for the first round.
