This whole thing seems like data mining.

Big marketing-style build up - stage curtains, countdown, hype - 30 minute wait. And hosted on Facebook instructing you to use a Google email address - a personal one - not in his official capacity. It has an infomercial feel. He wants your info for future use. What will that be? Don't know.
