Well, if you want to get technical all citizens ARE treated...

...equally.

The government should stay out of the marriage business.

That is a private voluntary agreement between individuals.

Why do you need a permit?

We're going backwards here.

Instead of arguing to have LESS government intervention in things like marriage, we're trying to get MORE laws passed which means bigger government to administer and enforce them.

The solution is to say anyone can marry anyone and any contracts they want to have between them is up to them.

If people need approval or permission by an outside entity for their marriage then they can use a church or a justice of the peace or a preacher or a friend etc.

But keep the government OUT of these deeply personal decisions.
