I may be wrong, but as far as I know,

anyone can enter into a contract with someone else stipulating joint ownership of property, hostpital visitation rights, etc. Also, a person doesn't have to be married or even related to someone else to include them in his will. I don't hear gay marriage advocates advocating legalization of polygamy. Why? Why is polygamy illegal? A man can make a will including numerous women that he lives with or even enter a contract with those women, but he can't have a legally, recognized marriage with all of those women because of the culture and traditions of our society.
