This is a situation in Oath Keepers could be really helpful.

Those with law enforcement experience but are not delegates or alternates could donate their time helping with security, including crowd control. This will enhance safety; as, not only will local law enforcement appreciate the support, but local law enforcement is less likely to resort to excessive force if some of those in their ranks are just as likely to take them down as protesters. Besides, it is great public relations.
