Tough competition for the RP crowd. We were running against some big name Republicans. Although we were very organized, we just didn't have the numbers. Less than a quarter I suspect. I'm guessing we had a lot of support from Dems and Indys in the Beauty Primary that just weren't informed or didn't feel comfortable continuing on with the caucus process.
A couple of other observations. The state executive committee and state chair were were in no mood to host barn-burner of a convention. They wanted to keep it an establishment pep rally. They changed the rules at 5 am just a few hours before the doors opened to do away with the pesky Robert's Rules. And then there was the Romney slate. The executive committee and the Romney operatives were definitely coordinating. I even overheard some establishment Republicans talking about it. The smug Romney operatives even had "Volunteer" convention badges that were given to them by the Executive committee.
The VTGOP was asking for a lot of money from the presidential campaigns (in my opinion). Bottom line, the Executive committee was whoring out ,and Romney paid to play.
