silver Ions or (Ionized Silver, maybe mostly pure silver too) kills over 600 Virus and Bacteria on contact.

The Egyptians used it to replace skull parts after rudimentary brain surgery, presumably because of this. Same reason cutlery is/was called silverware. You could rinse the knives and spoons and the silver would naturally sanitize.

Another reason I've always felt silver was more valuable than gold.
