I don't think that it's a wedge so much. I just think that there are people that are realizing that secrecy, infiltration by covert means are contrary to freedom and an open society. So Rand is really just bringing out those who didn't realize these principles of liberty, and they will either go back to the same old neo-con establishment and walk off the plank with Rand, or they will continue on with those who were truly Libertarians.

Some will take a while to recognize it, just as it took so many on the daily Paul to recognize the vote fraud issue. First they made fun of us and called us conspiracy quacks, then they fought us, then we won, then many joined us and turned from the delusion, and came to the light. Same thing is happening with the Rand defection from the liberty movement. He has left the movement, but he is really trying to secretly take it over.
