Edit: Oops I should have read the entire comment before I replied. I agree with you. Was in the middle of battling trolls on another thread when I saw your post, sorry!

If you don't understand the libertarian argument against the government being involved in labeling WHATSOEVER (federal OR state), then please read about "Regulatory Capture" and "Public Choice Theory".

The only place the government should be involved is if someone is outright lying or making false claims about their product, in which case they should be fully open to lawsuits and criminal charges of fraud.

The problem is once the FDA is in control, as long as Monsanto follows "regulations", they are basically immune from lawsuits or criminal charges of fraud. So by giving the FDA power to regulate this you are only empowering Monsanto and other corporations because they will use the captured regulatory agencies to shield themselves from lawsuits and criminal charges of fraud.
