I know people who been through similar scenarios (and much worse) as well, just not in Pennsylvania.
The religious/philosophical objection to vaccines is law. However, you have to specifically object with the wording of the state statute. I suspect these parents did not do that. It does not make what happened right, however it does make what happened avoidable.
I still think this hospital should have their pants sued off. This should also serve as a valuable lesson to future parents. Know the laws in your state long before your child is due and be prepared to cite the statutes if you need to.
For each of our three births, we had our exemption/objection filed in writing and cited the state statute. Nobody ever bothered or pressured us after that.
